What t-stat?
I have a big block with a 4 core and i was running a little hotter than normal today....100 plus heat though!! i have a 180 in there now and that is all that i have ever run and just recently did a flush and fill and used the premixed coolant so i know my mixture is right..so what temp t-stat do you guys use 160? or just the ol' 180 just currious.
Thanks |
I run a 180 in my 402. I have a 4 core, also. We've been up to 108 to 110 recently. I pull a 5500 lb trailer with my truck and very seldom see it over 200, usually 190ish, up a little while pulling up hill. I'm not concerned about 200 (or 210 for that matter) as new stuff runs that hot all the time.

once the motor warms up to operating temp it's going to run the same temp with a 180 or 160 thermo. thermostats don't have a refrigeration system built into them

A BB will run a little warmer than the run of the mill sb. I run a 180 stat in my 383, & it stays pretty constant on temp(tween 180-190). I ran a BB Olds in the truck, with the same 4 row core (fresh rad)....that one ran a 160 stat, & generally ran 210 in traffic on a 95 degree day. she would cool down to 175 rollin down the road tho.... I agree that 210 is no big problem.....you start pushing 225-230 & I get a little nervous ;) crazyL :burnout:
