Greetings from the new guy

Just wanted to say Hello. I'm a new member redoing a 1970 1/2 ton shortbed(actually a father son team effort). We've never done anything like this before, so we're looking for all of your expertise. Currently we are switching over from a six lug setup to 5 lug (front disc conversion) using parts from a junked 72 1/2 ton. The rear end went pretty well, but I just learned today that the front spindles from the 72 have different size ball joint holes (smaller) than the 1970 has. Suggestions? Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Check the FAQ's section on ball joints.I think you nee the 72 ones but I can't say for sure.Someone will probably answer your question but the search may be faster.
BTW welcome to the greatest 67-72 truck source in the universe.

i would drop the whole cradle out of the donor truck if you have it because your going to need the 72 balljoints as well as the outer tie rods

Another Okie Welcome

You'll definitely be glad you hooked up with this bunch. I'm also doing the father-son project thing with #1 son and his '69 C10. I've found the folks on this board to be not only very knowledgeable, but also very helpful.

Headed out tomorrow to check on a '70 C10 for #2 son. Yep, I'm infected, and apparently contagious...

Welcome from SW OK...SSOW :bowtie:

Thanks for the warm welcomes and support. Come to find out it's not the hole size but a difference in the spindle thickness from the two years. I did get the tie rods & entire drag link assembly, but maybe tomorrow we'll be back for the A arms. I'll check the FAQs link. Thanks again

If you unbolt the front crossmember from the frame and install it to your frame all your problems are solved. If not tierods, balljoints, center link, brake hoses and lines will become a nightmare. WELCOME!

Yet another welcome from Mississippi. Glad you stopped by. But where did you stop by FROM? There seems to be no "LOCATION" information. Folks here from every nook and cranny of the country and a whole basket full from Canada, too.
