Fuel gauge question...
I want to replace the gauges on my 74 GMC. The needles have lost the orange color and are really faded and I found some at the junkyard for really cheap. My question is do the gauges just bolt right back on? Is it really that simple or are there any diffuculties involved? I just want some advice before I do this

An entire cluster will easliy drop in IF it is same style (ammeter vs volt meter, mechanical vs electric oil pressure). Individual gauges are also simple. You shouldn't have any issues with the gas gauge, speedometer, and temp indicators. The ammeter or voltmeter and the oil pressure gauges need to match or you will have wiring mods to make.
The gauges are held in the cluster with only a few screws, they can be changed out of the cluster with the cluster installed or removed from the dash. If the needles are the only problem I would go to a hobby or craft store and find day glo orange or red paint and touch them up. I have done that a few times with good results. Dave |
