I heard after the 70's they went to a cheap chroming process, and once they rust no matter how much you polish them the first drop of rain will start the rust all over again.

Don't want to steal the thread but along the same topic, does anybody know if they are available in a 6 bolt pattern?

I was under the impression they were but have been recently told by another board member they aren't?

I am thinking about getting a set for my 67 GMC.

I've had a couple of sets of them. My orange truck was the most recent set. I always buy them from Summit and trust me they are cheaply chromed.

Without giving out too many details. let me say, wait till Monday afternoon and I'll post you pictures of a set of freshly opened brand new ones and you can see for yourself.

Cheap or not, I'll keep using them on all of my stuff, because nothing else is even close in style.

These are the ones on my chevelle. I don't know how old they are (me being 24 and the chevelle being 35 :p ). I have noticed that the center cap looks a little different from the all of the other ones I've seen.
If anybody knows what year cragers these are let me know.
Todd

I've had many Cragar SS wheels in the past and never really had any troubles with rust. What was a common problem back then was peeling chrome on the spokes. That part is or was made from an alloy metal and the chrome would always peel there no matter how well you maintained them.

Another trouble area is you have to be very careful when mounting or dismounting tires. (tell the guy doing the work to be extra careful) Many of SS wheels came away from the tire machine with a broken center! (part where cap sits over)

I've had my fill of these wheels a long time ago and haven't had any in a long time so can't say if the newer built ones are better, worse or the same.

about how long do they last still lookin really good, cuz i hear theyre cheap but i still they look SO goopd but dont know if its worth the money

i gotta agree with bobs409, the biggest problem was (is..) chrome turning loose from the aluminum centers. i have had several sets, some i bought new , some i bought used, and thats the problem that i have experienced.
yes they only come in 5 lug, i have seen some older 4 lug rims, and a nother 5 spoke called a cragar gt that look ed the same, but had a smaller center cap. i think one of the chief culprits in the center peeling off is dog urine.
i have kicked several mutts off of my rims over the years. but seriously,
for looks and style, i will take a set of cragar ss rims over anything else, any day. just my 2 cents.

is it possible to buy them inchromed & have it done locally? (this side of the ocean)

Good post!

My two cents on this.
I had mine for about ten years. They were 14 in regular rims. I ran them on my 82 Camaro. I was able to keep them rust free for the most part for the majority of this time but the last couple years they started to Galvinize corrode. White dust on areas where the chrome started to peel off on the spoke area's. I used turtle wax polish on them all those years. The worse thing that happened was they warped on me. These rims can not take to much driving long distances. 12 hours here and 8 hours there. I warped them driving to Fallon NV. Would I buy them again? Yes, but I would use them for car shows or short in town or country drives where you just want to be in the car. I would never use them for everyday use again. Good post!!!
