cam shaft position sensor
I am having problems with my truck and the check engine light tells me that I need a cam shaft position sensor but I have already replaced it with a new one. If any one can be of help I would appreciate it. Also if any knows how the truck would react if this sensor goes out please let me know.

first:
What year is the truck? Engine? we need specifics to help. You should see no effects of the sensor going out. Did you clear the codes after replacing the sensor? |
Its a 97 with a 350. Yes I have had the code reset with a scan tool and also many times by just diconnecting the battery. Do you think that the timeing might be off? It did not do this until after I got it back from the transmission shop. I had the transmission rebuilt about three weeks ago and it was doing this when I got it back.

could be the timing. A lot of shops pull the distributor out to change trannys. There should be a mark on the back side of the distributor from the factory that shows where it should line up. You will have to use a mirror to see it. Also check that both plugs are plugged into the distributor.
Of course you could also have a bad cam sensor. |
