Has anybody removed the dashpad and filled the holes and painted the complete dash??
I'm using a 68 cab for my SWB project and last night while stripping out the interior to do a color change, I was looking at the dash w/o the pad on it. I think it would look pretty neat to fill the holes with patches and do the body work then paint the whole dash............with no pad!!
Anybody ever try or do this?? I think it would look kinda custom w/o being cheesy. What do you think?? |
I'm kinda curious to see what that would look like myself.
|
i am doing this to mine, haven't started yet, but i think it'll look pretty sweet.
|
I plan to build one out of aluminum and polish it. I saw one at a show once and it looked awsome.

The pad is there for a reason: To keep your teeth and the truck's metal separated at all times. However, when I see those gnarly slice-and-dice billet steering wheels I figure what the hell, you'd just be a glob of red grease by the time you hit the pad. Go for it! We wanna see! H.

So I take it nobody has tried it before?? This sounds like a challenge!!
|
Didn't Smooth68 do something similar?
|
Check with XXL I think he has done his somewhat like you are talking about.
|
I saw one last weekend being done over in "Lone Oak". He had the body work finished and primed in. Really looked good.
|
my question would be...how much would the dash pad really do...i think that if you were in a bad enough accident. and the dash pad saved your life...you'd still be pretty screwed up and wish you DIDN'T have the dash pad...lol....but that might just be me.

I was at Super Chevy Show at maple grove a few weeks ago and There was a Texas Transplant guy there who removed the dash pad reversed the instrument cluster (lots of metal work) and It looked very nice. I'll search and see if we took a picture of it.

I like this filling in the dash holes idea. Any more pics out there? |
Started cutting the plugs for the bigger slots in the dash. I think this is going to look cool.
|
Post a couple pictures when you get it done, interested to see what it looks like with paint and the gauges in. Later, Gord

I left my pad off and painted the dash 2 tone black and orange. I kinda like the way it looks with no pad and all the holes :D
