Removing a dash
Found a nice dash out of a 62 vintage dash, that is in better shape than on my 62 'burban. I found one bolt on either side of the dash, by the doors, but can't find any more. Is it possible to take these dashs out?? If so how??

They are attached at the windshield pinchweld with several dozen spotwelds. It is not an easy job. Brian

Dash removal
Hi there,
I've taken out quite a few. Undo the bolts, take your handy battery operated sawsall and cut if off. Once you get home you can grind all the spotwelds off from the back and spotweld it into your Suburban. Taking the one out of your Suburban is another story. You will have to purchase a special spotweld drillbit (1/4 or 3/8). Once you take your windshield out and remove all of the goop you can see the spotwelds fairly easy. You will have to drill all of them out. Once you have that done there are two areas (one on each side of the dash) where the metal overlaps. If you do not want to save your old dash use a die grinder. If you want to save it you will have to carefully cut between the sandwiched pieces of metal. Aint no thing.... Have fun, its a great experience. |
Well, I don't think Im gonna worry about right now. Thought it would be easy, but I guess that's what you get for thinking, right? Now I just want to thing to run and drive, cosmetics will come later. I found most the peices that I need, just need to start on the stupid thing. Thanks for the replys!!
