new guy with a 66c10

Greetings all, just joined. Ive got a 66 c10, Im tearin down to the frame, and startin from scratch. Right now Im takin teh cab apart and cant figure out how the heck to get the dash out. Ive taken the 3 bolts out from each side, and the ones under the steering wheel, but it still wont come out!!!!!! any body know anything bout this??

PJ_STYLES 10-09-2004 06:51 PM

Hi and welcome to the board! :) You won't be able to get the dash out because it is spot welded a whole bunch of times underneath the windshield to the fire wall. Only way to drill out spot welds is to take the windshield out.

thanks for the inf o guys, next question, who makes original metal for my 66, i.e. doors, bed sides etc?

raphyel 10-10-2004 04:26 PM

Original Metal

You will be hard pressed to find original parts without a lot of swap meet hunting and other sources. However, there are a lot of good providers of quality parts for restoeing these trucks. Several of them advertise on this site. What parts exactly are you looking for? Someone here probably has the parts you are looking for. what kind of shape is you truck in currently? I personally have gotten parts from GMCPAULS. I got my drop spindles and inner fenders and will get my rocker panels from them. They carry good solid products.

mikeymike_97526 10-11-2004 11:45 AM

It's not in too bad a shape overall, but someone bondoe'd the crap outta the doors, and bed side panels, and I hate bondo. I was lookin for some kinda after market sheet metal biz that make replicas of the original. what the heck is a rocker panel anyway?

raphyel 10-11-2004 12:01 PM

rocker panels

Rocker panels are the bottom of the door well. Most times on older trucks, they rust out. As far as doors, you can buy door bottom patches which have to be welded in and get rid of the rust at the bottom of the door. I have to do my own doors also.

Another question, Im confused as to which kinda bed I have, my wheel wells are on the inside of the bed on the bedfloor. Is that a fleetside? not sure the difference between a fleetside and a stepside??? I know its a long bed.
