Brake problem help.

Hey folks,

Checked the searches but I want to confirm.. With the vehicle running , if I depress the brake I get an 1" or 2" of slight resistance with a whoosh. Then a very hard brake and little stopping ability. If the vehicle is off I seem to have little change . An 1" or 2" travle then very hard brake. Now I'm thinking the power brake booster, but even after a few day's I still have vaccume when I try to remove the vac hose from the booster. C

Could the check valve be bad?? The vehicle seems to run OK after inital startup, So no huge vac leak. Anything else I should look for?

Thanks for the help.

you hit the nail on the head there. bad valving inside the booster. time for a new one. check with GMC Paul's. he is a board member & we like to support our friends.
I would post a link but I am a moron & feel lucky to be able to tun on the thingy that kind of looks like a TV. if the wife turns off the rectangular box under the desk I have to wait for her to help me.

try sending him a PM or get a hold of Wes @ classic heartbeat. he is a frequent here also.
I have another option but it involves a lot of fabrication of later model booster & grafting 2 brake pedals together
