Engine swap underway...
5 Attachment(s)
WEll, I started the engine swap this evening, got the old one out and started looking into it, looking for a crack or something, but nothing seen with the naked eye, or at least nothing I've found as of yet.
Found out the old one IS in fact a 4 bolt main 350. I kinda figured as much being the numbers say it is an 86 350 from a K/20 or C/20. I pulled the cam out, one lobe is gone, but the rest look OK. Isn't the lift/duration and brand normally stamped on the end of an aftermarket camshaft? I think I was told this at one point...there was nothing written on there. Oh well. Timing chain was loose and streached....another item i was told was edelbrock, but has no markings on it. Oh well...on to the pics. I'll be putting all these pics in the FAQ when I get the swap all done up and write it up. I'll post more tomorow...I'm dead tired right now. oh, and in case anyone is placing bets...no blood yet. ;) |
nice engine
the new chrome covers look nice....the carb too....the fuel filter is bent though.......
|
LOL!
(The items he listed were all his) |
Good pics, please give us more.

Andy, aftermarket cams are hit or miss with what is stamped on them.
Typically, all you see is the grind number, like 270H or TQ20H, or whatever the manufacturer calls their grind. Then, you have to be familiar with cam grinder's part numbers to decipher which company made it (like the 270H above is a Comp grind) Bonus question for the listeners........who made the grind called TQ20H like I qouted above? I know the answer, but I want to see if anyone else remembers the company. |
That wouldn't be Erson would it?
Do I win anything? ;) |

|
Yep, Erson cam. Super Shops, now long gone, was the biggest purveyor of Erson stuff around.
I read that Super Shops stiffed Erson real big on money owed when they went bankrupt. |
Andy, that looks like the stuff that poured out of my 327 a month ago. I just went through the same thing you are now...Good luck. Now I just have to figure out what to do with the 327 and all the parts... :p

I'm thinking of making an end table out of my dead 350. Along with a tailgate coffee table. ;) Yeah, I'm kinda sick like that.
The swap is goin OK, I'm being pickey as hell, so it is taking much longer than expected. It is bolted down in the truck now though...that's good. More pics and stuff later....oh yeah, a pic some of you may get a kick out of. I always say Vice Grips are the most important tool, they can be used as pliers, a wrench, a clam, and also, can be used to stop the bleeding. |
Nice heavy-duty hemostat you've got there!
|
a table like this?http://www.mcoers.com/files/enginetable.jpg
These are cool.Don't know bout the wine bottles in the cylinders though...to upscale for me ;) |
I didnt think it would take too long to see blood......lol.Good job on the faq Andy.
|
keep it comin' Andy. shame i cant keep this scrolling like a screen saver....
|
Well I was gonna say It don't count unless you bleed, but you already figured that out:p
Swap is looking good so far. Is that a new kind of oil you're draining out of there.I have drained that kind out several times:D:D |
I have seen a lot of stuff come out of engines before but never mud. That is a new one.
|
thats not mud its a milkshake the byproduct of coolant and oil mixing who says oil and water dont mix

yea as true as that is they are together now so they are mixed
