'67 Stepside pickup

If you look at the pic on my profile you will see the pickup - I didn't know how to get a pic into this forum. The truck has a few bumps on it, but is still pretty straight - especially for it's age. The rust you see is surface.. rain in Missouri has caused it - the truck has been here for a year, originally comes from the desert Southwest (the place of preserved vehicles). My father changed out the engine from the original 287 to a 350 out of an olds. Sorry. :( I inherited from my father, this was his toy. But, unfortunately, I have a daughter who cannot keep a vehicle on the road (wrecks) and insurance that is ready to kill me. The truck is currently licensed, clear title, and insured - yes it's been inspected. I'm not particularly fond of getting rid of this truck, but it's a case of have - to... So, I've decided to part with her for 12,000.00. I can send more pics by email. I will even take pics of the interior if you wish (has a/c in dash - seems to be factory). But, I would only like serious inquiries.

i know its tough to part with a truck but for 12000 dollars i could let that go, lol.

newmizj 10-28-2004 11:58 AM

Well, gentlemen. Yes, I am a woman. And, yes, the price is 12,000.00 (that is twelve thousand dollars) and no, I did not make a mistake in posting that price. I realize that everyone loves a DEAL - and this truck would be a STEAL at the price you wanted me to list. Sorry, gentlemen - I might be blonde, and I might not know a great deal about antiques - however, I do know that the truck I have is not a "find every day" so ... I gave it some thought and checked some prices on vehicles of comparable condition and options, and found that there are very, very few vehicles like this particular truck that are still available on the market. I must thank those people who have cut down and modified a lot of those trucks. That looks great - but from what I've found out - ruins the antique value of a vehicle. For those people who modified vehicles by putting a different chassis under their vehicles or even finding other trucks whose title and vin # they can use to rebuild a favorite style of vehicle, I understand that those trucks are often a nice rebuild, but lose that original antique value. Now, I don't want a price for a vehicle that has been put in a time capsule right off the line - that would be completely ridiculous. I would like to get a FAIR value out of the vehicle. And, no - I didn't consider sentimental value when I priced the truck - my father's image is worth a great deal more - As for what I will do if I don't sell, well - I will park it in the garage and work on it at my own leisure. So - as of this weekend - that surface rust in the pics will be parked in the garage - and I guess I'll start sanding by hand... LOL - need some exercise anyways. HAPPY HALLOWEEN - EVERYONE!

That is strictly an opinion

Good luck with your project. Working on a 40 year old truck is a special experience! People on this site do want a good deal, but this is NOT it. We feel obligated to teach people about these trucks, if you want an honest (I don't want to buy it so I have no reason to lie to you) value of the the truck send me, or any of the other guys, a private message. Your Antique Value was lost the minute the original engine was replaced. I'm sorry but someone has misled you on the value of this truck...

Good luck, Roger

SLS 10-28-2004 12:53 PM

"Your Antique Value was lost the minute the original engine was replaced."

That's the truth.

And once it gets sanded and repainted too.

Sadly, they are only original 'once'.

"however, I do know that the truck I have is not a "find every day" so ... "

Come to Tennessee......and you may reconsider. They are in the 'Wheels and Deal' here almost weekly...mostly Chevrolets, but also a few GMC's pop up from time to time. Most unoriginal examples that need some fixing up are in the $2500 to $3500 range. The last real NICE one I saw was a couple of weeks ago...68 Chevrolet short step...58,000 original miles..I-6 w/3 speed on the column....one owner...garage kept...white paint almost like new....no rust...$5800. It lasted about 4 weeks, and then the ad was gone...so I don't know if it sold or not. :)

Also consider that Chevrolets seem to be more 'popular' with the old truck guys (no offense to the GMC guys...I like them too)....but they don't seem to bring what a Chevy will, at least in these parts.

With the onset of the internet and Ebay you CAN find deals weekly. You being a woman has no bearing on anyones oppinion here. If you were an 80 year old man or a 12 year old boy it wouldnt matter.
Its nice to see women interested in old trucks. We have quite a few females here actually.
Put your truck on Ebay. Take more pics, and lots of them. See what comes of it. Put a reserve price on it. That will tell you what we told you here.

boraxman 10-28-2004 01:09 PM

Personally, I feel you would be lucky to get more than $3500 for it. If you do decide to restore it you will find many great resources here. Good luck either way. :)

I agree. Then share your findings w/us so we can know more about current pricing as well.

Welcome to the board.

My 2 Cents

That is a nice truck, however, top price for it as is would be around $3,000.00 to $3,500.00 if it does not have rust or dent issues. If the truck was put on ebay for more than this it would never sell. I would keep it, restore it and injoy it little lady. I would not buy the truck myself so this is my very honest opinion from years of buying and selling these trucks. It is a very nice project though and one of the nicest I have seen if there are no rust or dent issues. Would like to see a picture of it when you are through. You can get a lot of information from this board on restoring it. Take care, Ernie

71Longbed 10-28-2004 04:42 PM

i didnt mean too be rude or unmannerly with my earlier coment i do apologize the price is just proposterous tho i was also thinking the same as other 3500 tops you may find some one that is more fond of those style trucks and pay ya more

CALL A LOCAL AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY AND FIND OUT IF ANYONE IN
YOUR AREA DOES CLASSIC CAR APPRAISELS, THEN YOU WILL GET MORE
ACCURATE DEFINITION OF IT'S ANTIQUE VALUE, KEEP IN MIND THAT IF
THEY GIVE YOU A PRICE YOU MAY DECIDE TO CHALLENGE IT AND GET A
SECOND APPRAISEL, JUST LIKE IF YOU WERE BUYING A HOUSE, BUT I'LL
ASURE YOU THAT NO ONE, AND I MEAN NO ONE WILL GIVE YOU MORE
THAN WHATEVER THE APPRAISED VALUE IS, PLUS THIS WILL ALSO HELP
YOU WHEN YOU GO TO INSURE IT, BECAUSE IF A TREE DROPPED ON IT
RIGHT NOW, WITHOUT PROOF OF VALUE YOU WILL ONLY GET ABOUT
$800 - $1,200 FOR IT, SORRY, JUST SPEAKING FROM EXPERIANCE, I'VE
GOT $29,500 IN RECEIPTS FOR "GQ" LINKED BELOW IN MY SIGNITURE
AND I HAD TO FIGHT LIKE HELL TO GET $15,000 WORTH OF COVERAGE
IN IT'S PRESENT STATE, AFTER IT IS COMPLETED AND PAINTED THEY
ARE GOING TO BUMP ME UP TO $30,000 AND THAT IS WITH A TOTAL
FRAME OFF, GROUND UP, RESTORATION, HOPE THIS HELPS YOU. ;)
