what is the original GM red for a 1980 model? I'm going back either OE red or some other fire-engine red equivalent.

Yeah paint is a while off, but its nice to wonder.... I know its the *red*, and my parents, etc, say when it was new it was like a fire engine. Thats how i want it to be, red like a fire engine :D

well saying you already have a compressor and a gun here go's
in july or august i had ordered a steel rollpan so my friend was gonna weld it on so i decided just to primer the whole truck because the paint looked kind of bad. So we bought some cheap duplicolor primer from oreilleys it was about 40 bucks or so. so we sanded everything and welded the rollpan and the holes from the emblems and stuff and then sprayed the primer so this week i decided i wanted to paint it. I bought the same brand sealer no sure how good it is but i sprayed that the other day.Youre supposed to spray it right before you paint but i didnt like the way it layed out so i waited and then sanded it smooth and put the paint over that. What i used was Omni acrylic enamel i got a gallon of that(which is plenty) a gallon of reducer and hardener for $118 I mix it like this-- 8 ounces of paint to 1 ounce of hardener and 1 ounce of reducer. And then sprayed it with my gun. I did just the roof yesterday so this morning i wetsanded it with 1500 grit and then 2000 and then buffed it with some compound i will probabally resand it to make it look a little better tommorrow morning when i do the front of the truck. You have to wait 12-16 hours in between painting and wetsanding. All in all i thought it would look a lot worse being this is my 1st time but its going well so far. |
Painting is the easy part. Its buying all the equipment and doing the prep right that gets alot of people. Good looking so far. Acrylic is very workable. Should come out looking very good.
