Very High RPM at start
 

Today I went to start the truck after few days. Last time I started it was the time that I reset the timming with some of board memeber help.At that time, it was startind and idling nicely. Since then truck was parked in the Garage. Is my timming too advance? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

prob just the choke kicking in did you try kicking it down? as long as was idling and running good before and you tightened distributor down tight it shouldnt be the timing. check your choke adjustments and if doesnt kick down once warmed up then adjust the idle. how high is very high rpm when starting? if roaring then look and see whats makeing the throttle move when you start it. and dont run it like that till you get figured out. what kind of carb you got?

Carb is new edlebrock 1406 with electric choke, and yes it roars right at start. I tightend the distributor. I didn't connected the chock since I am in LA/Ca and it's choke was not connected before either. I am just afraid to let it run like this until it warms up.

Check to see if the High speed idle cam on the carb is stuck .Here is a PIc you can back the screw off the cam .

Thanks Bill72. It was stuck and I don't know why. I thought I had a good linkage but apparently when I try to tighten the linkage it doesn't move freely. Anybody knows if there is any kind of throttle linkage which I need to use for edlebrock?

You need to hook the choke wire up. That wire is what heats the choke element to open it up when the truck gets warmed up.

I have my electric choke hooked up , just run 12V to the choke make sure the 12v is only their when the key is turned on ,there is a unfused 12v source at the fuse box that only has 12v when the key is on .
If you don't want to run the electric choke just back the screw off so it never hits the high idle cam.

I think if he isn't going to hook up the choke wire, Then take the choke off completely. Otherwise when it is real warm outside the choke will be open and the idle will be off again. The choke is 1 wire hook up and set it once and forget it, If the temp is always warm out the choke will never cause the choke to close, If the temp drops the choke will give him a little faster idle. To adjust the choke so it never closes I think he just has to loosen 3 small screws then turn the choke till it opens. This should be done cold.

Setting an electric choke needs to be done with the engine at operating temp. Loosen the three screws, turn the choke housing clockwise until the butterfly starts to close, then back off one notch.
