Scrap is up to $95 a ton here!!!!!!!
I took 3 loads of scrap parts in and one load of Radiators. Pretty good day!!!!! :D
I hope it gets that high here,it's still around $50.
Been 90 bucks or more here for over 6 months now. (for rotors and H.D. drums...about 70 and up of sheet)
the price here sucks...we took a 3965 pound caprice in and got 60 bucks...
Here's the bad thing about high scrap prices:
LOTS of salvage yards, individuals, and small companies are selling off our old trucks to get "crushed" into blocks and recycled. Lots of good parts are being destroyed not just for our trucks but for muscle cars as well. |
Right you are, i noticed that all friggen summer. There used to be plenty of caddys ready to donate engine parts, adn lincolns to maintian mine with...and a few trucks in a couple yards...now there isn't squat.
I had the same situation here by me . 3 yards crushed the whole works. One of them had probably 15 good trucks with tons of good fenders and doors, boxes and misc parts. I couldn't afford to grab everything last time I was there but never considered the next time I went it would be all gone!!!!!

:bowtie:
I HAVE TO LOOK AT THE OTHER SIDE AS WELL. I KNOW SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT OWN BONEYARDS, & LET ME TELL YOU... IT'S NOT NEARLY AS GLAMOROUS AS YOU'D THINK. IT'S ACTUALLY HARD, DIRTY WORK WITH LONG HOURS. THEN SCAP PRICES GO FROM $17 TO $95 A TON. IT MAKES SENSE TO THEM TO CRUSH EVERYTHING IN SIGHT. OLDER CARS & TRUCKS ARE HEAVIER & HAVE LESS PLASTIC IN THEM, WITCH MAKES THEN GOOD CANTIDATES FOR CRUSHING. ESPECIALLY IF THEY'VE BEEN ON YOUR INVENTORY FOR YEARS & PARTS OFF OF THEM AREN'T SELLING RAPIDLY. PEOPLE DON'T WAN'T TO BUY THEM... THEY JUST WANT YOU TO KEEP EM INCASE THEY EVER NEED EM. BUT DON'T WORRY.. YOU WON'T SEE ANY 64 CHEVELLES OR TRI 5s BEING CRUSHED. THEY ARE IN THE BUSINESS, & HAVE A PRETTY GOOD IDEA (USSUALLY INFLATED) WHAT IT'S WORTH. IT SURE WILL MAKE IT A WHOLE LOT TOUGHER TO GET 70s & EARLY 80s FULL SIZE CHEVYS THOUGH, & WE SURE GET ALOT OF DONOR PARTS FROM THEM, NO MATER WHAT WE BUILD. BUMMER  :( JOHN |
Im getting ready to take a load in mon morning. this time I am playing it smart & loaded all the #2 cast in the trailer & all the shearable steel in the truck. I hope the price is still up there as it was for the whole summer.

Guys are crushing all over, its a shame at some of things the smash, I seen three of our years at the scrapyard, I couldn't save anything from them, they crushed them when they took them off the trailer. One guy hauled in a 40's chevy car that wasn't in bad shape, the guy that owns the scrapyard has a salvage yard and it was going over there, so somebody will get some parts. I took that old 69 3/4 with a 6cly and AT tranny, with some doors in the bed in there and got $190 out of it.
I took a 71 C-60 with no motor in, but had a heavy fifth wheel on it, about 3 weeks back and got $80 and thought I did alright, must have went up since then....maybe not here though!
Hey Randy, did they make you take the tires home with you...I had too or they said they would charge me to take the truck!
i took a truck to the scrapper today and got $135 for 3360lbs. i sure hope it stays this high i have so much stuff to get rid if. besides the junk yard actuly seems clean for once.

Hey Gord, they don't make you take off car or pickup tires, they dock you $2 a ton, I try to leave them all of them that way I don't have to get rid of them. I'm getting 2 more loads ready today, LOST some of the money I made yesterday though, wife made me take her out to Red Lobster since I was gone all day. :D :D I ate well though. I'm just cleaning up before the snow flies.
