Shifter Removal

OK, I feel like a doofus asking this one, but it's been over 20 years since I've worked on a 4-speed vehicle of any kind.........

....what's the trick for removing the shifter on the 4-speeds?!?!?! I thought that the round, slotted cup on top somehow screwed off, but I don't see where it does........I thought it prudent to ask you fellas before I took a BFH to it!!!!

Thanks,

Misled

Push down and turn (counterclockwise I believe). It is spring loaded.

Vise grips or channel lock pliers help if it's tough. Push down & turn 1/4 turn counterclockwise.

If it's fighting you, use a pair of channel locks. Put the jaws on the retainer and use them for leverage to push down on the spring and turn.
