THEY ARE FANTASTIC TOOLS..... I ONCE BUILT A 2300 H/P NATURELY ASPIRATED SMALL BLOCK CHEVY, THAT RAN ON PUMP GAS, ON A FRIENDS DESK TOP DYNO. :D :D JOHN |
it's a good tool for relative comparisons, getting an idea of how much gain could be realized from a change. DD tends to be optimistic in my experience, it assumes everything is set up perfectly (ignition, fuel curve, etc.) Also, good cylinder head flow data is essential for accurate results. just like any computer program it's only as good as the data put into it "garbage in, garbage out"

How does it work? ... Does my computer race yours?

I have a copy of it,I use it some, but find it really making me wanna go shopping,so I try to stay away from it:p
It's a good tool though.Kinda hard to get the hang of. |
pissonNOS............That's illegal, it can get you a temporary ban. It just happend to a few others.......

The Desktop Dyno is not as accurate as it could be; it does not allow you to design the exhaust headers, which has a TREMENDOUS effect on horsepower and torque output, and does not allow you to input head flow numbers. For the price, it does an average job.

desktop dyno in my experience is off one way or the other every time there are better programs available they just arent on the mainstream market. i have one used by engine builders which keith black had a hand in putting together.it is damn accurate. been within 5 horsepower on every motor that was ran through it compared to actual dyno number so i trust it and like was mentioned the info that comes out is only as good as whats put in. but ya gotta take dyno numbers with a grain of salt. dyno numbers are great for bragging but thats about it. dyno rooms are normally climate controlled with perfect atmostpheric conditions and stuff never seen in the real world.

inline6bill: You can enter your own head flow numbers, in DD2000 at least.
I bought it a few years ago to play with....fun program, but not accurate IMO. The low end tourqe seems pretty far exaggerated. But it does provide a nice program to select cams and heads, and is kinda fun to use. I wouldn't trust it as very accurate though. |
