Core Support Question
1 Attachment(s)
Is the pictured Core support look like it is for a 67-68, or is it for a 79-72?
|
Pictures kind of dark but looks like a 69-72.
|
Along the bottom are those welded(captive) nuts, if so I'd say 67-68.

Sorry firefighter I think I disagree
Look at this pic of 72 core support still in truck. Check out the wire location for park lights .Same as pictured one. Also included 67-68 pic for comparison of light hole. |
Look at the two pictures you posted and the one he posted. The 69-72 have a raised bucket for the headlight spotwelded to the core support. The 67-68 does not have that bucket, the headlight assy bolts right to the support on the earlier trucks.
His support doesn't have the raised buckets spot welded to it, so it must be a 67-68. Also, his support has the row of threaded holes along the bottom for the 67-68 splash apron, that the 69 and newer trucks don't use. |
I agree with my brother fireman. My original 68 rad support, and the Goodmark replacement both have stamped headlight buckets, and my 70 has them spot welded on.

Any body try to swap one
Any one ever try to make a 72 core support work with an older 67-68 front end .
|
Ok, im assuming the majority think the core support is for 67-68. The guy selling it says it came off of a 68 which is what im looking for. Just wanted to make sure before I purchased it. Thanks for all the replies.

What is the difference between the two as far as mounting to the frame?

C Support
The headlight holes are in different locations, so you cannot interchange. You can however take the headlight buckets off a GMC and use on a 67/68,but you will have to put in the square holes for the headlight adj. and you won't have the bolt holes at the bottom for the splash pan, unless it is a 67/68 Gmc core.

I changed a 72 GMC core support to a 67/68 chev. Pain in the booty and I can't say that it turned out very well either. I would not recomend it and will never do it again.
|
OK, but what about physically bolting them to the frame? I am rebuilding my 68 onto a 72 frame.
|
Sorry firefighter I always went by the wiring holes guess I won't do that again!!
Darn and I was saving my first mistake for later in the year!!! |
glock35ipsc,
I seem to remember hearing that they used a different mounting bushing to the frame. One type used a thick bushing and the other type used a thin bushing, but would interchange as long as you had the correct bushing for that core support????????? But I don't know for sure. I'm sure somebody on this board knows. |
I've done the early clip onto later truck swap before. I used the 72 model type of core support bushings and it was good to go.
The bushings have to match your frame. |
Cool, so the core support mounts that came with my body mount kit are supposed to fit 69-72, and if the body kit was to be used on a 67-68 another core support kit was needed. So I can use the core support bushings that came with the kit, and send the 67-68 core support kit back?
