How do you...
Hi guys;
This past weekend I went under my truck to explore the area for wiring /grounding problems, then I noticed that the nuts which holds the bed wood floor down are sqare. How do you open those? considering that they are in some kind of frame under the bed. I have very uggly bed wood by the way which is in need of upgrading, hopefully one at a time. Thanks |
I had to cut mine off with a grinder.

Old rusted bolt are deathly afraid of Vice Grips!

a square bolt will require a square socket. (i think they still make them) or an open end wrench. easiest way would be to cut them off though as previously stated
|
It's called an 8 point socket. They are special for square heads. You can get them at Sears pretty cheap.
No more often than you use them, the Craftsman brand will work fine. Spray good penetrating oil on the nuts and allow it to soak in for a few hours prior to trying to loosen them. |
You may have 12 point sockets in your current set. They wroked just fine for me.
|
Yes I do have 12 point set, I'll try that. If doesn't work I 'll visit sears. Thanks for all the inputs.

the blue wrench or a grinder fighting those bolts for hours isnt worth it break em cut em or burn em off.
|
unless your truck has never seen rain or salt, those bolts are never going to budge, just torch them off, I had bed bolts that were 7 years old with never seeze on them, and I had to torch them
