I have heard that it is also stamped into the sheet metal underneath the VIN plate, but I have yet to remove one to verify this.
Other than that, and on the glove box sticker, there is no other place on the body.

Andy,
i have 2 71 cabs, i removed the vin plate on both so that i can take them down to bare metal, no vin stamped in the metal behind there at all
just flat straight metal and 4 rivet holes

I have a 67 chev and the same thing nothing underneith. but have it stamped in the frame in 5 places I found them all after I sand blasted the frame whitch is good you might find 3 but the other 2 you have to remove the whole body to find. and your glovebox tag (corect).and ownership thats all I know.

According to my local state inspector there are only two locations on the cab, the vin plate and the glove box door sticker. And only one place on the frame, top of the left front rail.

ok another quick question then. how do i remove the plate to "paint" the cab and then have it reriveted legaly?

I found the VIN on the 72 frame I just shortened in three different locations. Left front frame around the steering gear area on top of the rail, right under the drivers door on top the rail, and under the pass door on the side of the rail. There are other groups of numbers in at least two different places. The same can be siad for my old 68 frame.

Didn't remove the VIN tag from the door jam though.

Call your DMV and ask them about legal removal. Let them know you are doing a restoration and want it to be 100% perfect. They may still tell you to go away though.

I had forgotten about the birthday sticker in the door.
