30 ugh 5 mods?
 

Anyone got any good suggestions for me to enhance the 305. its in the garage awaiting gaskets so i figure while im in there i will add a high volume oil pump, quality new timing set edelbrock performer rpm and edelbrock carb.
any suggestions, hints etc ? trans is a turbo 350 , I'll be towing a medium sized bass boat and basically cruising. any suggestions accepted with hearty thanks! what cam? what color should i paint the block its got orange heads and a blue or black block neat huh? :bowtie: :D

Check to make sure it is a 305. Orange heads don't soud like 305 heads.

the blockis definately 305 the heads? you know how po sometimes mix and match stuff.

A few years ago my brother helped me freshin up my 305 (that was in my cutlass) and we put a cam from a '74 400 block in it. It really made a difference from the stock motor. I don't know alot about engine build ups and what is compatable but if you talk to some other people and ask their opinions I'm sure you will get a good running engine when all is put back together.. You must ensure those are 305 heads. Pretty much anything else will not work, and cost quite a bit when you tryto make it work.
Don't waste time/money with a high volume pump. A quality stock unit is all you need, and high volum/high pressure pumps rob power.
Just put a performer intake on, a 600 CFM carb of your liking, HEI, some small tube headers and small dual exhaust, and make sure it is tuned fine.
You won't win any races, but it'll do what you need it to do.

I prefer Ford Red on my engines,cause I don't like the Chevy orange,but hte GM blue is good too,depends on what you like I guess.

I have a 305 in my S10, the same one that ran in my 1 ton flatbed(78 & ugly), & the kids 89 ford ranger. the 305 is a little underpowered in a full sized truck.....but will work in a "pinch". I have one of my favorite oiling systems for street use.....a 6 Q truck pan, with a melling Z28 replacement pump. The top was done(fresh grind & a set of Z28 springs). the old tired chev runs a Crane fireball H290 cam(.454 lift, 216 dur @ .050), & idles fairly smooth. it runs pretty good in that small truck, & not too bad in a bigger truck(provided the gears are low enough). crazyL :burnout:
