Finding parts
 

Are you guys finding it hard to go to find new parts for these trucks? I called Oriellys looking for a brake line,they said 62 was as far back as they could get parts for,AZone told me about the same thing.I finally found one for 12 bucks at a Carquest store 10 miles away,and promtly went and snagged it,only to find out they usually stock parts for my 49:cool:
I was really surprised that AZone,and Oriellys didn't carry,and couldn't get parts.

Yea most places only go back to 62. Alot of places dont go past 67. In the next few years it will be harder to find stuff, and harder to find stuff for the 60-66.

Speaking of brake lines, im gonna need some. Metal lines are no problem at all, but I think only 1 of the rubber lines (from outside of frame to drum) on the truck can be used. Rest are ok, but I dont wanna risk busting one.

Mine are all needing replaced also,but the drivers front was AWOL,and I just wanna be able to drive it around the shop,so I bought just one.

I'm still thinking about the S10 frame swap,and don't wanna spend my money until I decide what I am doing.

Look here brainchild let me let you in on a little secret. All these big chain so called auto parts store can get the parts for your truck. The only thing is that all their salesman don’t know jakesh__t! They think if its not in there computer they don’t have it or cant get in. All they know is what’s in the computer, and the computer only goes back 30 of 40 years but that doesn’t mean they cant get it. They just punch it in and pull it out. Most of them don’t have a clue about car parts. Let me ask you this, how many time have gone into Azone and asked for something like a wheel bearing or a u-joint and the guy behind the counter is asking you stuff like, do you have A/C or P/S 4 or 2 Barrel?? Now what does that have to do with a U-joint??? Where do you think All the specialty shops like LMC, Brothers, The Truck Shop get there parts? Manufacturers are still making them. I still go to big chain auto part stores when I need a part for my 52 but I don’t go with out a part #. The specialty shops have all #’s but they wont give them to you because they want to sell it to you at an outrages price. The truth of the mater is when you need something of an older car you need to go somewhere where they know what they are talking about. I like to go to local mom & pop shop that have been here for years. You know your in the right place when walk in and it smells like someone just re-built a carb, and on the counter there is no computers. Just one huge book from side to side. The guy behind the counter’s name is usually Earl or Billy bob, But I’ll tell you what half the time they don’t need to look in the book. The only bad thing about these shop is there usually only open from 9 to 5. That suck when you get home around 6. What I also like to do is go online to get part #’s. Most of the big chain auto part store have a web site where they have all of there inventory. Get the part # there and take that to the store. And if the kid behind the counter asks you if you have A/C tell him “yeah for all the hot air your giving me.”

Every auto parts store around here has a Billy Bob or Earl working in it! ;)

I guess I'm lucky here because the O'riellys I use will actually go the extra mile and look in the books. If they just say no then ask for the manager and have him look it up.

the only place I have found is in hte next town and they usually have the parts in stock,but then one of the guys comes out of the back wiping oil off his hands too.Maybe that is the difference:lol:

Well then Heatwave I guess you’re just a lucky individual. Most the big chain outfits in these areas have a bunch of puck kids making minimum wage who don’t even have a clue what kind of oil to put in their Hondas. Not all parts stores don’t have a Billy bob, if that was true o’l brainchild wouldn’t be having a problem finding brake lines now would he!!!

lol they don't even carry a front line for my 71,and I figured it was common enough to have one in stock.
I do have good luck with Carquest having what I need,Sloreillys is a joke anymore.I have been using NAPA more lately.
