Need help with my 1977 hood adjustment
 

First off, all parts are GM, no tiwainian here. I have the doors and front fenders adjusted and the gaps are good and the body lines look sweet. Then there's the hood. when I first mounted the hood and closed it, it stuck up at the cowl side about 1.5" - 2". OMFG. Then I loosened all the bolts that mount the hinges to the fenders. I propped up the hood with a stick, pushing it up until it would not go any farther, then tightened all the bolts back up. When I closed it, same thing, it stuck up 1.5"-2". Then I tried the same thing with another set of hinges. Same thing? I removed the springs from the hinges to see if there was a bunch of slop, but there was not any. Can anyone help me figure this out?

you may need to slot the holes on your hinges for more adjustment.

Are your rear hood adjusters turned down all the way? Check to see if the rear of the hood is hitting them, if so, then you found your problem. I had a similar problem, so instead of notching my hinges, I purchased SS nuts and bolts from the hardware store and was able to mount them as low or as high as I wanted...solved the problem.

WOW OMG. Look at my hood in my display pic (click on it I have it bigger) Is that what i have? My hood is curled a little bit, but not like you usually see them curl. It is doing just like he said, it won't go down in the back, like the hinges need to be notched. Dang it, and me and my dad comptemplated notching my brand new hinges to make that hood close. Huh.

Hey guys, this is easy, just did it myself. open the hood ,and remove the springs from the hinges.you can line the marks up on the hood to hinge connection and snug it up. next you loosen both hinges where they mount to the cab.Now either with an assistant, or alone if your arms are long, lift up on the front of the hood as high as the hinges let it go.Dont force it farther up than is within hinge movement ! Now tighten up those bolts from hinge to cab.Now you put your springs back in. Next you can set her down , go easy now, should be right in place if you marked the hood ! Works for me every time. I actually was having a similar problem...I got new hood hinges (Thanks Scott!) and it solved my problem. Now, you can see where my hood is kinked JUST a little.
