gchemist 11-30-2004 03:34 AM

Not enough. I would not stop spending until it exceeds the price of a new truck. :metal:

bigblock73 11-30-2004 07:57 AM

Whatever it is, it isn't as much as me. :) :barf:

That's why we have these trucks :D Its not an investment its an interest, hobby, passion of love type thing. Some people see it some dont. I dunno how many times Ive been asked why I put money into a 250.00 truck. Truth is there isn't much on there that hasn't been replaced or fixed all in the sake of having a nice fixed up daily driver. I will admit my truck doesn't look very good body wise, but I haven't started on it yet either. I would rather have a running truck than one that is sitting looking purdy (I don't mean anything bad by that). Mainly because I rely on my truck so much to be the daily driver. I fixed the drivetrain first some parts of the drivetrain multiple times. Most of all the stuff I have done to the truck I have cut my teeth on so there will be mistakes. But I wouldn't trade it for a new one.

DCRANER 11-30-2004 10:06 AM

O/K, I always noticed your truck, very, very nice.

Forgetting the truck, paint job etc. I would say for the parts (Specs.) you listed, I will guess $8,326.73. Just my estimate.

Now, the truck, paint, chrome, interior I will take a wild guess would be around another 11 grand, so I figure close to $20,000 as it sits.

Question. I like the idea of the rear fuel cell, can you tell me the parts involved? I would like to do this to my truck and also doing AutoMeter gauges, so what is needed to hook up the a new fuel gauge.

:gmc: :burnout:

I did the cell install as well a while back, here is my write up. As far as the gauges, I did them too, to see them look here. Swervin also did his, but his are recessed, check them out.

If you buy the same cell Tim and I did, it has a built in sender...needing only a connection from your gas gauge to it to make the gauge work. Right Tim?

Whoa, thanks so much.

I plan on doing my gauges exactly like you did, and I figure the rear fuel cell is safer than the side tanks as well as getting some weight to the rear for traction.

I also have APC buckets going in, so over this winter I hope to have my 86 GMC complete. :metal: :burnout:

wanna guess how much I have in this one? however, it is a write-off due to it being used as a "work" vehicle.

I'd guess at the $50k area although I dont know what type of motor you run. Some motors are $50k+

I would be interested to know how much you have in that. Same with all you guys with "Finished" Trucks (Eric, Ken, Scoti)

Yup, You just extend the wire that went to the stock sender, then wire up a ground. (The Fuel Cell sending unit is marked with "S" & "G")

$8200!? Wow...no, I actually totalled it all up so far, and it totalled up to $5500.
Someone actually asked me the other day. "Why did you fix up that crappy truck? Why didn't you just buy a new truck. I'm sure with all the money you've got dumped into that, you could have bought a new truck." WRONG!! $6500 is nowhere CLOSE to the price of a new pickup. However, I DID build my motor to keep up with the 5.3L new trucks. :D

BaggedC10 11-30-2004 01:04 PM

How about 24K and still not having a complete truck? :D

Maaaaan, I think you have me beat so far!

I am in the low 20's, but I don't expect it to grow too much more, I have all the major pieces purchased already. I think I will top out around 27k. I have to credit Ebay...I have saved quite a bit of money on there, and made quite a bit selling old (no longer needed) parts too.

I think Dave has 40+ into his (IIRC). Yeeoowww!

I am just about done, maybe about $1,000 to go and then I will be complete at around $20,000 + total spent, truck & all. Maybe too much  , but life is short and old trucks are  .

The last time I totalled ALL of the reciepts I have from originally getting this truck in 1989 it was more that I am willing to admit. There were 3 motor changes and 3 rebuild of those motors, 3 transmission changes, 2 rearend changes, 2 suspension changes, 1 complete suspension rebuild, numerous body pieces purchased, 2 gauge sets, blah, blah blah blah.

When I totalled up only the final destination reciepts I was around $30K. All this and it is only a rolling frame with a BBC in the frame...

low 84 11-30-2004 03:20 PM

i have more in just my motor than that, lol

I don't doubt that. I was debating building a nasty motor for my truck, but it's pointless, when a blue bottle will let me go as fast as I wanna go.

I've went that route before...and it never stopped, haha. Mod fever had a good hold on me. It got to where I didn't even wanna drive the car, because it was so pathetically modified. (BIG turbo 97 Eclipse)
I figger, if I can click off a high 12 on the switch in my truck, i will be at peace.
