Odd options in 72!!
Coolant recovery system.
Infant safety Carrier. Camper Intercom system. GMC side step for wide side pickups. Stainless steel door edge guards. Cigarette Lighter. Accurate Liquid Compass. Electric tach.(top of dash mount??) Center console seat for pickups.2 3/4 pound fire extinguisher. Swing away spare tire carrier for fleetside trucks. Spare wheel and tire lock. 3/5/8/12 ton hyd jacks. Sturdy trailer hitch. Front and rear tow hooks. Any other weird options?? |
Those are dealer installed options, not factory options.
They had lots of neat stuff. In '59 you could get sunglasses from the GMC dealers that said GMC on the arms. They were cheap, but I would give my left lug nuts to find another pair in good shape. Some of the dealer installed options listed in my 69 GMC owners manual include a pull out camper bumper, add-a-leaf springs, C.B. radio, 8 track stereo, locking gas cap,air hornsspot light,a couple step bumpers, a brush guard (cattle guard in Tx)arm rests, seat covers, tow hooks, and some other stuff. I know in the 68 chevy owners amnual, it lists the glove box light too. |
My 69 has a glovebox light , and a vanity light, are those factory or dealer installed?
WHat are you refering to as a vanity light?
Glove box lights were never an option, only dealer installed. |
SS door edge guards were factory equipment.I have a saddle color tissue dispenser.Has a GM emblem on it.You could get Bedrails from dealers.Never seen listed as factoy, though.
How rare are those stainless door edge guards? I snagged a pair a few years ago off a junked wrecker but never saw anymore in my travels.

The ss door trim was dealer installed according to the 72 owners manual.

If they are listed on the glove box label I would say they were from the factory. If not by the dealer, or PO. I have seen them on the parts board at times and also some NOS ones on ebay so they can be added.
The edge guards were avalible as a factory option for 71 & 71 IIRC. IT was more common as a dealer install though. Tissure dispenser was never an option on these trucks, although I'm sure you could talk the dealer into bolting one up though.

Andy, i would guess the door edge gaurds were avalible in 70 also. Dark pic, but here is my daily driver. Also notice the truck is white/ hug orng/ white. I haven't seen many trucks with paint listed like that.
Kind of a dark pic i guess, but i can get a better if anyone wants to see...
This is on my 70 which also came with a glovebox light but is not listed in the glovebox. |

Not a bad little list you have there.
Thanks for the enhancement! It is a good option list, but notice the lack of "custom sport truck" or "cheyenne" options. Originally a custom, but have added a big block, tach, buckets. Is there a reason it dosen't say anything about front locking hubs? I have seen it on other trucks. Didn't they all have manual hubs in these years???
WOW!....a 'Engine Block Heater' option! Not something one see's everyday. Cool!
up here in canada thats pretty standard, my 67 had one on the 283 and my 71 daily driver has one, as a matter of fact its plugged in right now:)
My Highlander has the hand-throttle.I have seen L/O hubs listed on the VIN-spec and seen trucks w/o lock-out hubs.
I meant vanity mirror not light, but ya must be a dealership installed thing, because its not listed on the sheet
Door edge guards were listed on both an ealy cheyenne I had, and my 71 Super. Brother had wht, hugger org, white listed as too much stuff and it had edge guards as well, In fact they could almost be twins except for the block heater and my brother's trucks red hole custom vent system for the bed .
My 72 still has the original factory jack in the cab. Is that rare?
Your jack kit still in the bag...that would be rarer.
My buds 71 has a option it says Floorboards..... lol was it an option not to get them?...lol I thought it came with floorboards.
ya I have that option too, no thanks I dont feel like paying the extra amount to have a truck box floor  but what it actually meant is that you got a wood bed as opposed to metal
Hooter is right....wooden bed floor.
Mountain Man, how rare is an item that was installed in every truck built? (not an option...standard equipment) |
