4 wheel steer 1972 blazer?
Does anybody rember the red 1972 blazer that had 44`s and 4 wheel steer. There was a video of him in reno on the strip.....I thought he was a member here...The reason I`m ask`n is I just saw it on e-bay. man that is a nice truck.John

toggle switch controlles it.center postion locks it straight.up it turn the wheels one way,toggle down they turn the opposite direction.

that's 1fnhik5's truck over on ck5. I don't think he has been on in a LONG time but I remember him doing that rear steer conversion. You might try doing a search over there if you can w/o being a member. I know some of you are but a lot aren't but that is where he used to hang out a lot online.

by looking at it, it looks like he used a hydraulic ram, most likely tractor supply or northern tool, and it seems that its a dana 60 rear from what he said, and im guessing that he took the internals and knuckles and spindles from a front D60, put in the D60 internals, and flipped the knuckles and spindles from driver side to pass, and pass to driver side, so that the draglink and all is on the rear side, and pretty much he could not use a front axle in reverse due to the rotation of the wheels, so pretty much it looks like he made a reverse rotation front D60

I have never seen this truck in person, so I can't tell you how he did it...but I have done it. I can tell you that all you need is a normal front end. Chevy didn't do the reverse rotation thing like Furd did, so "technically" the front axle is wrong when it is in the front anyway. All you really have to to is move the rear springs inward to gain tire clearance when turned. It works well to move them in to the correct width of the existing perches of the front axle you use. Then you don't have to move/modify them at all. On all of the ones I did, I used a hydraulic cylinder that fit in the existing steering stabilizer bracket and tie-rod hole. It is also advisable to make a way to lock the rear wheels straight foreward and to electronically disable the hydraulic pump (key switch).
Using the stock parts is not only the simplest way but if you ever break an axle you can get a replacement quickly and easily. I did the conversion for a guy on a Blazer and he insisted upon centering the differential and having custom alxes made. It ended up costing him a lot more, but it turned out to be a "street queen", so he never had an axle problem as far as I know. |
You should see the locking pin.It's about an inch in diameter and is electrically activated.
