Wanted: ignition lock cylinder
1 Attachment(s)
I need an ignition lock cylinder that will take J blank keys only. I need one so I can get it matched up with the key to my doors. A key for it would help too. :metal: If no one knows what I mean by "J blank", look at the pic for the J stamped in the key.

They can be bought thru any local locksmith, and some chevy dealers.
What year truck? |
different?
Are these any different than the replacement locksets made for our trucks or the stock ones?

Didn't know the dealer would have 'em, guess I'll go over there Monday and check. It's for my '70 C20. The one I have in the truck now is an aftermarket replacement that was in it when I got the truck. So I have two different keys instead of one for both the doors and ignition. Here's a pic of the two keys, the one on top is the original and the one on the bottom is the aftermarket ignition key. It says "FOR GM CARS" on it and has the C stamped in it.

It's surprising what the dealers still carry.
I've seen key blanks, and lock sets sold thru the dealers that were the new style square head. Some of the sets are keyed alike, others are a locksmith job. |
aftermaket sets
Most board vendors sell complete sets for new ignition and door locks for around $25/set. I beleive they come with real similar keys to original. Its not difficult to remove door panels and swap out door locks while your at it. I have seen GM key blanks on ebay also, I assume they can be cut to fit.

Thanks for the help. If I can't get the lock cylinder that I need I'll just swap out everything for new stuff. I know the dealer has the right key blanks, I bought two of 'em last year in case I needed spares cut.
