help me find a bumper!
4 Attachment(s)
lately i've been trying to find a new chrome rear bumper to match my front bumper. the front is much more "stylish" than the regular rear utility step bumper, but i cant hardly find any! the local hot rod shop says they could probably get me one for about 175-219$, and i've found this one
http://www.americanclassic.com/asp/d...ype=to&exyear= (look at rear bumpers part # br73) but i am not sure if i need to buy the brackets as well, and they will not answer my emails. thats not too good for their customer base, i'll tell you that right now! i have looked on ebay too, and cant find one on there for the life of me! couldnt find one at summit racing either... well, i found one i think, but much to expensive, and not the look i like. does anyone know where i can find one or have one i could purchase? p.s. heres the front bumper compared to the big clunky lookin rear and oh yeah, one of these days soon i'm pretty sure i'm gonna be takin off the front license plate... just make it that much cleaner lookin! thanks! mitch |
What size are the tires on your truck?

Having a brain cramp but when I switched mine I remeber the utility bumper bracekts were part of the bumper and I had to find new brackets. I would just hit the bone yard for brackets, probably alot cheaper.By the way LMC customer service stinks...buy it from one of the board members if you can. I would hit a local bumper shop first. I think I got a front bumper for 125 bucks...been a few years.

why not get the chrome bumpers off of the 88-98 chevy pickups, look somewhat stylish and available most anywhere

Hey Captkaos.....I'm about to order my front and rear bumpers and brackets through your site and had a question. Is there a noticible difference in the regular rear bumper and the "premium" rear bumper? In other words...is it worth the extra $30-40 for the "premium"? I think I'm gonna get my Roddoor panels from you as well....how's the overall quality? I went by their booth at Turkey Rod run in Daytona and the other stuff looks pretty nice, but they didn't bring any of the 73-87 stuff. Thanks for any help you can offer. |
JC Whitney has all kinds off bumpers too. I have the same bumper as you except mine is crome. Nice looking ride though.

I ordered the door panels, but they are not here yet. Jeff (bigblock73) liked the quality of the parts he got from me of theirs though. I wished I could have made the Turkey Run, but I had plans before I knew they were going to be there. |
D'OH! Completely overlooked the "Stepside" portion of the part.
Yeah, I talked to them for a little bit and they all were VERY nice and pretty excited about the amount of interest the door panels have gotten. Also talked to Covan's Classics while there. He just completed the dash bezel for our trucks and had one setup in Carbon Fiber Finish with 5" and 2 5/8" Ultra-Lites....VERY nice!! |
I found a set a swap meet.
Try looking on the board. You will need new brackets. LMC Truck has them, but they might be expensive. fullfootnotch, will the 88-98 step bumpers bolt right on to a 73-87? |
What about looking into an older van bumper, I am pretty sure they are the same.

lol yeah as much as i like the "utility" of the big step bumper, i have yet to tow anything, and if i ever plan on it, ill get a trailor hitch that actually goes up under the truck rather than towing straight off the bumper.
Here's an old pic of mine before i acid soaked, primed, and painted it "chrome" ratlecan, though it looks more stainless that chrome. Notice the detergent bottles holdin the plywood down  |

mylilbowtie - off the top of my head i dont know about the tires, (the guy i bought the truck from put em on) but the rims are 22"s 8t5silverado - you say i need new brackets, but i got an email from the customer service from american classic (the link i posted already) and they said the bumpers should fit my stock brackets  |

look at your two inner brackets, they are basically two brackets that stick out vertically to the ground. now look as to how a blazer bumper mounts. they are totally different. this is how my brackets looked for my step bumper |

By the way, just making sure, is this the bumper your talking about??

You'll be way ahead if you can find all the stuff used except the bumper. It gets kind of pricey if you buy all new parts.
When I did my conversion from the original step bumper,I was able to get the inner and out brackets for each side plus the license plate holder and all the bolts from board member,Crossy, for some where around a hundred dollars. The bumper was about a hundred twenty from a local supplier and the bumpers bolts in stainless for about fifteen. You'll need to mask off and paint the inside of the bumper cause they rust pretty quickly if you don't.Sure looks a lot better than a step bumper. Oh I forgot, you'll also need the filler panels that go between the bumper and the bed.Took me a while but I finally found them on ebay, can't rember how much, probably around twenty dollars. Good Luck Tom |
yup, jesse, that looks like about what i want. so what i'm hearing is that i need to buy the bumper, and the outer AND inner brackets? if this is the case, jesse, i may buy those brackets from you, but i need to spool over it in my mind for a bit... thanks for the help guys, i'd be lost without all this! keep it comin!
|
Not to hijack this, but y'all know the rear bumpers in LMC that have the backup lights? Who makes those and do they got a stepside version?

Yeah you have to get the inner and outer brackets 64.95 each AND the rear license panel 28.85, license panel hardware kit 7.95, left and right deflectors 9.95 each. These are LMC prices. I took me like a year and I finally found a truck at the junkyard with all the hardware. I still have to get a new rear bumper but at least I have all the brackets. The prices I gave you are from LMC. You should get the LMC catalog its free and it shows you exactly what you need. The brackets that I'm selling are original and are worth a lot more. I will put them on ebay in a few weeks, I'll let you know when I do. |
thanks! what is LMC's website so i can order a catalog?
