Hello, I have been visiting here for awhile and thought I would share my current project. I just purchased my truck a couple of months a go and hope to start working on it after the first of the year. P/O started to sand for paint and then wanted to sell, the dark spots are surface rust. The truck only cost me $700, 350 (not original), 3 speed (have a th350 core in garage), am considering shortening to SWB, will be a weekend cruiser. Glad to be apart of this board, have already found some great information from here. Will post some pics (hope it works).

Welcome from soggy western Washington. Looks like you've got a good start. Long steps are a little more rare than short steps (if you care). Most guys will tell you to dump the spare tire mount, but I kept mine and put a nice cover on it. It's different from all the other stepsides. In any case, good luck and keep posting progress pics, we love to see those.

I agree with keeping the longbed, I wanted to be different from the standard magazine truck. It was just a consideration.

Shortbed stepsides are cool, but they are a dime a dozen. Yours looks like a nice solid project, I'd restore it as-is. (well, you could lower it an inch or two) :D :metal:

Longbed steps are rare and do look cool when done right. They only thing I would change is get rid of the spare tire carrier and find a new fender. JMO....and welcome from SC :metal:

Welcome from SW Washington State....

Have to agree with keeping it long bed. Don't find many of those around. You could always get a shortbed when this one's done.

Photoshop it for him Randy!!

DJ72CHEVY 12-16-2004 12:09 PM

Yes, Brenham is where Bluebell Icecream is made. I do plan on lowering the truck and having a mild 355 or 383 built. As you can see in the pictures I really live out in the country, Chappell Hill, TX to be exact. But you Brenham is the closest town you will find on a map.

Please do not cut that bed. I will buy it from you before you cut it. My first truck was a 69 Long step GMC and i miss that sucker. Always thought itr was cool.

mblackburnjr 12-16-2004 02:40 PM

good looking project. From the picture it almost looks like you could move that spare tire carrier forward, and replace it w/ a full fender if thats what you wanted...

Randy70C-10 12-16-2004 02:57 PM

Here's a quick photoshop :D

gr8scott51 12-16-2004 03:01 PM

I think long beds look especially cool if they're chopped, too. hint, hint

Randy70C-10 12-16-2004 04:28 PM

boraxman 12-16-2004 05:02 PM

I vote for the big drop!

gr8scott51 12-16-2004 05:39 PM

AND the chop. Nice job Randy. See DJ? This board is cool.

DJ72CHEVY 12-16-2004 05:48 PM

I like the lowered pic, but I will not chop it. If it is not to much trouble, could you make it light blue? I like the factory medium blue or lighter. I will also put rally wheels on tthe truck, K.I.S.S. rule.

Thanks for the modivation, I have a few more honey dews to take care of before I start working on it.

gr8scott51 12-16-2004 06:03 PM

Put the pic on the Photoshop page and let them all go wild.
