N00b question regarding longtubes... and an intro
Well, based on the forum I posted in and the topic I'm sure that most of you can guess what my question is. But, for the specifics we have an '83 C10 in the garage with the front clip pulled off. The stock, tired 305 will be replaced with a '76 350 from a 'vette. Though, I can't tell which of the two 350's it was for that year. The question, though, is will longtube headers fit in this truck without any clerance issues? I'm specifically looking at the $79 pieces that summit racing offers. These will end up being a gift for my dad. He had a stroke a few years back and can't do much of anything but stay around the house and he's recently showed interest in working on this truck, so I'm sure being able to get out will be a welcome change.

Welcome to the board from SW Washington State....
Don't know about the long tubes, but have you thought about the short block huggers? |
I have, but haven't priced them out. How cheaply can they be had? I also thought that using long-tubes would provide for easier fabrication of exhaust the rest of the way back. I'm going up to Summit Racing tonight so I should probably decide soon... always waiting till the last minute.

HAD LONG TUBE "FLOWTECH" HEADERS ON MY 67 SWB WITH A 400 SB IN HER,
THE ONLY CLEARANCE ISSUE I HAD WAS THIS, THE COLLECTOR WAS GOING IN A DOWN HILL ANGLE AFTER INSTALLED, I DID NOT WANT MY PIPES HANGING LOW SINCE I HAD A 3/5 DROP SO WE HEATED AND BENT THE COLLECTORS UP SLIGHTLY WITH A TRANS JACK TO MAKE THEM APPEAR LEVEL W/ THE FRAME, YOU MUST BE REALLY CAREFULL DOING THIS, YOU CAN F$CK UP HEADERS IN A REAL QUICK FASHION IF NOT EXPERIANCED, BTW, FLOWTECHS CAN BE GOT FROM AUTOZONE FOR AROUND THE SAME PRICE AND CAN BE RETURNED REAL EASY IF YOU HAVE ISSUES WITH THEM, JUST MY OPINION AND $.02. ;) PS - WELCOME 2 THE BOARD FROM WEST 10-UH-C :flag: PSS - FILL IN YOUR LOCATION UNDER "USER CP" SO WE KNOW WHERE U R  |
Northeastern Ohio here... just south of Youngstown.
I ended up buying the $79 ones from Summit. Here's to hoping they fit. |
i've got the el cheap-o summit long tube's on my truck, but its a big block so theres some difference there, the only beef i have with them if that the primaries are a little bit to close to the frame on the pasinger side for my taste

I can't help you with your header question, but I did want to welcome you to the forum....
|
I put the summit headers on my '77 yesterday. It was a little tight getting the driver's side in, but with that done, there weren't any clearance issues at all.

Thanks for the good news and warm welcomes. Y'all may find me taking time away from working on my '85 T-bird to do work on the truck instead. I have ventured into what some of my Ford friends may call the "dark side". But no one can argue with the simplicity and ease of repair on these years of trucks.
