Brake center bar

Well this just proves that you never know what you bought until you look really close. While inspecting the front brakes, bearings, and ball joints on the "new" 69, I found the center bar and spring missing on the right front. Does anyone know exactly what this part does and the impact of not having one? I plan to get one (hopefully) tomorrow but would like to know the impact of not having one.

Ideas anyone?

I believe its to keep outward pressure on the shoes. It kinda keeps the shoes at an even space so they wont be grabby. I wouldnt drive it very far cause i'm not sure what would/could happen. basically its there for a reason so find you one and be safe.

I'm thinking its to keep the shoes/springs from putting too much pressure back against the wheel cylinder but I'm not sure. The shoe won't go back on this truck 'til I have one. Thanks!

The 'center bar' or 'parking brake strut' is not required on the front. It's purpose is to engage both of the shoes whn applying the parking brake
