Retumbling locks?
Previous to my possession, the right door had been replaced on my '69 GMC; concequently, I have no key for that door! Before I take it apart for some TLC and PM, can the door lock be retumbled? or would I be better off, saving my pennies for a set? My key(s) fit everything else BUT this door & it'd be a shame to replace all the locks for just one door!
Thanks, Bud |
You could look in the junk yard...I see vans all the time with a key in the ignition.

replace with new
Good new reporductions can be had from any of the online vendors. I saw one had a special the other day for $20 for the set. After you can get your door panels off it is less than a 20 minute chance out (maybe a lot less with experience).

Use to do locksmith work.....whole lot cheaper to buy new ones.
Even if you retumble that door the others have more wear. |
There were times when cash was short and the key didn't always work so well in the locks (probably because the key was worn) so I pulled the lock cylinders out of the doors and removed all but one tumbler then reassembled. Now most any key would work but nobody has to know that but you.

Ah, so...good idea on the junkyard idea AND on Gordo's trick; after hunting season is over, I suppose I'll have to go to the boneyard & check it out! Thanks, guys!
