rear brakes locking up..
i bought an 85 4x4 to drive in the winter, seems the rear brakes lock up with only about 1-2 inches of pedal pressure?? where do i start to try to correct this?? prop valve ? master cylinder??
thanks jamie |
at the bottom on the inside there is a slot where you can adjust your rear drums as the shoes wear down... they could be too tight. take off the rear wheel and see how hard it is to get the drum off. they could have been overtightened in an adjustment.

You might also have a leaky axle seal causing gear lube to get on the shoes and "grab" the drums. Happened to me once.

I had the same thing happen, too, but from a leaking wheel cylinder.
No indication from the outside of the backing plate, until I took off the drum. It made the good-running side wear so much that IT was down to the rivets  and THAT was the one that kept locking up. Brian |
thanks guys, gives me a starting point.
