HEY GUYS....CHECK THIS OUT - WHAT A RIP OFF!!!

Ok...if you all remember the post awhile back about the web site who had the polls and we all voted on making the 67-72 chevy truck number one? Well I took it upon myself to email the site and see why all of our votes had not been counted...here is their response...

"Brett,

As you can see on the index page, below the two Porsches, we show when the page has been updated and when is going to be updated again. We update once a week (on Sundays).

About the votes you know for fact, we have something to inform you:

In the Rules section of our site you will find that we do not accept more than 1 vote per person.
Altought more than one person vote for the Chevrolet C10 1967-72 (which we suppose is the car you are talking about), we have received too much votes from same computers.
Our ISP inform us that we received only 5 visitors on April 1st but a lot of hits in the Chevrolet C10 hyperlink.
We donīt know if you are member of some kind of Chevy club, or if you have a lot of chevy friends, but we can know for sure that more than 150 votes for one car in two days is extremely rare.
We also saw that some votes to the Chevy truck were followed by votes for chevy cars (Corvettes, Camaros, BelAirs, Novas). We will start monitoring these cars to finf out if the same person voted more than once.

For this resson, we have decided to eliminate all the 164 votes we have received for the 1967-72 Chevrolet C10.

If 164 persons voted for this truck, we need to received 164 voted form different computer addresses.

Best regards,

The team of The Car of Cars"

Sounds spot on. I work in the field of "e-business" and we can determine who voted based on your PC's ID. Most poll's like that will only accept one vote per machine. Usually you would get a notification that your machine had already cast a vote.

Good effort though.

So lets all go and vote ONE time each, no exceptions and see what they do. Where was that site again?

I figured something like that would happen.
Everybody go vote just once this time. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Shop/3902/main.html

They probably run the votes in on a batch cycle. It is not a live count. Don't get discouraged....keep voting. Sounds like they have a pretty old or simple system doing this for them.

If they don't think the 67-72 chevy is very, and I mean VERY popular, they should have been at Charlotte this past weekend.
I had the good fortune to have been able to go some all four days. There were as many 67-72 chevy trucks than any other group and more than most. And this was NO SMALL SHOW.

If they don't think the trucks are some of the most popular vehicles anywhere, they are not up to date on whats popular

COBALT 04-08-2002 10:36 AM

Well, the guy has a very good point! I was actually thinking the same thing he says in his response when I was reading the previous post, and saw people voting 2 times or more. I remember thinking "oh, great. They're going to throw the votes out because people are voting multiple times." I'm not surprised at all.

This "voting" thing works off session ids from your browser. If you're using cookies they can determine if you're a returning user by that cookie and what it contains. If not they have other ways of determining the host name of the client-your computer and internet browser (even though they cannot access the client themselves). That's how spammers, adult sites, and all of these "build your own site" places work.

Ever wonder how netscape.com knows who you are without logging in? What about Ebay? Good thing to remember.

I voted once and only once.

Yah I voted once this time and ONCE before. Who cares about their stupid little poll anyways, like who are they and what difference do they make in the real world. Its not like they are some big media outlet or organization. But I still voted.

Voted. They need to check their own people that have access to change the site because votes were creeping in on some of those vehicles without it being updated.

Gee_Emm 04-08-2002 01:03 PM

"our ISP informed us"

Uh would their ISP happen to be Geocities???

They sure try to make themselves sound alot more important than they are. What I'm guessing happened is that they looked at the page stats for their site(if anyone has or had a site on Geocities you know what I mean) and saw that the percentage of hits all came from the post that I think Dubie did on this poll. And how accurate is geocities in recording these stats, they dont seem to be that accurate on the stats for my site all the time. It might be that they are a partisan group and are more "for" other trucks then they are for ours.

O'l Buck 04-08-2002 01:41 PM

I voted once last time, and voted once this time. I wonder if the problem came from everyone going to the site from the link on this board???? is this possible, I tried just going to the site from my homepage this time, it's a pain in the but, but it would be worthwile to see our trucks go to #1 in the world!!! as if we didn't already know they were the best ever built!!!hehe

Another thing I noticed over this past week end. I "mingled" around David's at KINGPARTS booth some and talked trucks with a lot of poeple. I'd say 80% or more of the people I talked to had no computer or had no knowledge of any internet message boards. I think our trucks are a lot more popular than any poll could show. This is also obvious by the number of trucks on the road around just the Charlotte area. I'm sure its not much different around most metropolitan areas.

nosurf 04-08-2002 02:22 PM

I only voted once last time and I voted once today.
