BBC in a Chevy

Hi put a 2-454 BB into 1966 Chev Suburban's. The first one I had to massage the drivers side firewall (which I did not like to do). The second one I moved the entire drivetrain up 2.25", so my firewall looks perfect. The body is at a shop getting redone, so at the moment All I have is a frame with the running gear. Not much to look at for pictures.

Here is a 348 w-block that I have in mine. Its almost the size of a 454. I had to do the same thing to the drivers side firewall and shave a little (needed to be 1/2" wider) off the passenger frame rail for the exhaust manifold to get her in. This was using the factory tranny mount.

I got a 454 in my '60 GMC Sub 4x4....the passenger side frame rail had to be clearanced slightly for the exhaust manifold, and on the driver's side valve cover, I used a Corvette BB valve cover to allow fitment without cutting the firewall. The Vette valve cover has a large angle in it at the back end to allow for clearance in a Vette.

Thats what I'm running 348/420. The 348 has great torque. This one is rated at 250hp and 355lbf factory. It gets about the same gas milage with the holley as my 350 truck gets with a q-jet. The 420 is a little noisy and doesn't have an overdrive but is one of the best/strongest 4 speed trannys out there.

If you can find one cheep then great... But they are alot more spendy then a 350. I lucked out and got this one for a case of beer. I have 160$ into the whole truck and am using it as a DD right now :metal:

I am going to be putting a 454 in my 65 in a couple of weeks.

I had the same problems as you guys did. I had to move the enginve forward about 2.5 inches and take the spacer that was between the radiator and core support out so my fan would clear the radiator.
