Made some progress on the 6" lift install...
Found some shot tie rod ends, and a broken centerpin during the venture.
I compared the old spring arch to the new 6" spring arch, and without a load the 6" springs look to be giving me about 4" more lift! The springs that are coming off are junk, and I am 99% sure they are rearched stock springs. This thing is NOT going to make it out of the garage without some stockers bolted up. Looking at the spring arch there, what would you guess the lift is on em? I am thinking 2-3" at best, definitely not 4".
Now it makes sense why the rear was higher then the front; The front springs have sagged. |
Stock springs are almost a negative arch. I'd say they are worn out 4" springs - proably not getting you the full 4" lift. As far as getting it out of the garage, your lucky it fit in there in the first place. Neither of mine will fit in the garage. I've already told my wife the next house has to have at least a 3 car garage and it needs to be tall enought to get at least one of my trucks in there! Could you let the air out of the tires to roll it back out? Do you think it would damage the tires?

I think the tires could handle the airing down, shoot maybe that will work! Who knows?! I drove in presuming the truck had true 4" springs with about 2.5" garage clearance to spare which would have worked with 2" more lift.
However, since I am certain I will get more then 2" from the new springs, it will be a pinch. |

When I was building a 454 years back I aired my tires all the way down, I have 40X17 ground hawgs and 6inches or super lift, lift and 3 inches of body lift. Anyways to get my truck in the garage (had a blown up 350) we put a tire between the rear of my truck and my buddys truck and while I was aired down he pushed me in, then to get back out when the motor was installed we got a chain and he pulled me out. I aired up the tires and I was good to go..... Not ideal but it worked....

I know what you mean about small jobs getting bigger and bigger and taking longer and longer but when your done it's all worth taking your time and doing it right. Looking foward to seeing pics of your rig when your done. I'm also thinking of a 6 in lift but with 35s. Very curious if your going to need to lengthen drive shafts.
