Well, well well. The truck wasn't getting spark so we thought that it was something in the distributor, well sence I hate the ESC distributor I changed it out with a normal HEI and the truck still wasn't getting spark. Very very odd. Well after i took the cap off again after trying to get it to run I noticed that the rotor was in the exact same place. I got dad to look at the rotor while I turned the engine over and guess what? The rotor wasn't moving. Looks like I either broke the timing chain, or the camshaft, probally the timing chain or so I hope. Now I get to pull the timing cover off, and probally the heads because I have a feeling that the valve's hit the pistons. In wich case it looks like I'm parking Red for a long long time. Looks like it backs to getting a ride to school with Mom and buming rides back home. Joy.

Doh, that really really sucks man!

dont sweat the valve to piston smack thing, its probably not as bad as you think.. throw a new timing chain on there and let her rip!

It is a RELIGIOUS THING, when you throw a timing chain. There will most probably be a couple of bent valve pushrods after the piston hit the valves. I have seen it to many times to say anything else.

Oh man, gotta hate that. Better hope you broke the cam, or you got more problems than you bargained for. Is the a grionding sound or anything when it cranks?

Well joy. I pulled off the timing chain cover and i found....an unbroken timing chain. So that means that its something enternal and that means its motor pulling time. Hmmm...if the crank is bad maybe its time for a 496 stroker crank kit from summit and a bigger cam...but I have no clue what it could be, just sitting around waiting for Dad to come home right now. As soon as he does there will be more investigating into this matter.

Pull the dizzy again and check (with a flashlight)to see if you still have gear teeth on the cam.

Never thought about that one Marc, but either way pulling the camshaft is going to happen so we are pulling out the engine, we figure while we are at it we will look into why the number 7 cylinder has been burning oil. So thats what I get to do! im almost ready to take the engine out, been working hard and smart. All thats left is to pull the starter, the transmission crossmemeber, and the engine bolts and out she goes! So it should be laying in the floor of our shop by tomorrow. Ah the joys of truck ownership.

Could also be a sheared woodruff key where the timing gear presses over the crank. This would allow the crank to spin, but the cam would remain motionless. Food for thought. :confused:

Nope, Dad looked at the timing chain with the cover off whill i hit the starter, both spun, and the dizzy didn't turn in the whole very easy at all. Its kinda weird but if its something odd ball like the gear spinning on the camshaft im going to be hacked off to no end.

pull the cam sprocket off and rotate it (one way or another) and see if the distributor rotates.

The camshaft is broke in two, you can not move the rotor by turning it. The engine will have to come out.

Well well well, sence I have roller rockers one of my set screws came out when i did a burn out at 6,000 RPM for a little bit. The screw came out and lodge between the hole in the liffter valley and the exhaust lobe for the #8 cyliner and broke it in too. We were able to fish out the other half of the camshaft. So the truck should be running. And here are the pictures!(sorry none of the burnout)
