52 engine swap
 

I have a 1952 3100, it had a 235 when I first got it but I decided to drop in a 350 with a th350. I bought a engine and tranny cross member mounting kit. Everything went well except for one thing. I’m trying to stay with the original steering column but the block sits about an inch from the steering gear box. There is no room for my headers. I have seen guys drop a 350 in these trucks, but I have never paid attention to what they did with the gear box. Does anyone know what my options are?? If anyone wants the 235 I’ll give it away cheap.

A freind of mine called me tonight with the same problem. I know someone out there has some info on this? I havent looked at his truck yet but i have a feeling its easily fixed with different headers/manifolds.Thanks Chaco

Are you going to stick with the stock suspension setup? I would suggest an IFS upgrade since your adding the extra weight of a V8. This solved my steering/header issue....however I still had to use 3 steering u-joints to clear the headers. BTW I have the mustang II IFS.

I am sticking with the original front end. Some guys I talked to suggested using u-joint to rout the steering column around the exhaust but I remember seeing a 50 Chevy truck at the good guys show with the same set up as mine with no u-joint. But I cant remember how he went about doing it. And the 235 I took out of it weighted 75 Lbs. More than the 350 I put in it.

Ah...interesting I would have thought the 350 would have weighed in at considerably more. Good luck...I'll keep my eyes open for the setup you have with the steering and try to get some info.
