Is This A Good Deal?
I dont know much about the blazers but I have been wanting one really bad. I found a 72 gmc 4x4 350 witha 4-speed. The frame and body are straight except for the usual rust spots. The hard top is in pretty bad. Can you even replace the hard tops? This thing even runs and the old man is only asking $600.00 bucks for it. Oh, the right rear quarter panel is in bad shape. Is this a hard fix, to cut out and weld a new one in? Thinks for the help.

Its probably a pretty good deal if your willing to put the work in to get it where you want it. Sounds like one of the better deals I've read about. What kind of shape are the rocker boxes in? Somebody usually has a hard top laying around to sell or you could go to a soft top.
Good Luck! |
Rocker boxes
Are the rocker boxes the same thing as the rocker panels? If so they are in bad shape. I just thought they could be cut out and new ones welded in. Are the blazer bodies more difficult to repair than the trucks? Thanks for the help.

The rocker boxes are not the rocker panels. Under the body you will see the actual rocker boxes - they add strength to the K5 body for when the top is off.

Can you get some pics of the K5 to show us? That will help to determine how good of a deal it is. Unless rust has really taken over I would think $600 would be an awesome deal.

shoot, the way i look at it for a running engine (i'm assuming 350), a four speed, a decent frame and some straight body, you could part it out for more than $600. not that you are looking for something to part out but from that logic, i would say that $600 is a great deal... sounds like you got a good start to build from.

I'm sure you could part the truck and recoup your $600 investment if it comes down to that. As far as the top, you can find them for sale once in a while. There are two types, single wall and double wall. The single wall tops bolt down from above the bed rail and the double wall tops bolt up from under the bed rail. Single wall tops also have two dome lights. Double wall tops tend to get saggy areas and split at the seam. Single wall tops are more desireable, therefore, hard to find and more expensive when you do find them. The rear hatches are hard to comeby too, although there are reproductions being made and you can purchase them for around $400.
Soft tops are available from Specialtytopco.com and bestop.com. More guys tend to prefer the specialtytopco tops. I've got a brand new one waiting to go on my '72 as soon as spring comes round. My '69 has a Kayline top. Specialtytopco purchased the paterns from Kayline when they went out of business. |
thanks
I figured a good frame, t-case and decent body this was an ok deal. I want this to be a builder so
I plan on keeping it. i just was'nt sure of the differences between the blazers and the trucks. i do want to put a 72 chevy grill on it though. I tend to like the looks of these a little better. Chuck |
Ohhhhhh.... not another dead GMC due to Grille swap..... well I'm keeping 2 GMC Jimmys alive lol........
Don't tell me the address I'll buy it. Good luck with her. Mike... |
Keeping it a jimmy
I think you are right. the more I look at it the more it grows on me. I am going to restore her as a jimmy. Thanks for helping me make up my mind.

I'd buy it, sounds like a decent deal. I think I remeber seeing a top for sale in OK last week on here, I think if you're not in a hurry one will come your way.

firemanchuck, I think you'll be happy keeping her a Jimmy. With the grill you can keep the stock, chrome, or color key to your body paint. I've seen both and either looks great. I also think your resale value will be better if you keep her a Jimmy all the way. They are just different enough to were you will stand out from the Blazer crowd. That's not a knock against Blazers, I love those too.

There is a top for sale on Hemmings.com. Not sure where it is, but the price was $450 for a doublewall with a good hatch (as per the discription.)
|
If you decide not to buy it let me know, if its close to you then its close to me and i would love to restore it.
