Edelbrock 1406 gas mileage
 

I notice a lot of you have 1406 carbs, I was wondering what kind of mileage your getting, I'm getting 9 to 10 mpg around town and on the highway. What jets and rods are best for my setup to get better mileage? It's pretty strong now and runs great it even passes emmissions. Thanks in advance, Tony

Well, you should be getting better than 9-10 mpg. Your gears arent helping around town, but help on the freeway. You might want to go a stage or two richer on both the Primary and secondary (for your intake and headers). Look in your manual to find out what that is.

What configurations do people have on their 1406s? I would be very interested to hear.

I am thinking about combo 23 for me... That's 1.5 stages richer on Power and Cruise modes to compensate for Edelbrock performer and the Hedman Headers, and it's just a rod change.

Thanks for the replies, I'm ordering a kit form summit. I'm glad I asked, I thought it would be leaner for gas mileage! Still would like to hear somemore mpg's from those that have a 1406. Oh yea, I have duel cats also if that makes a diff.

I get about 12-13 MPG in my '77 blazer (2wd). I've got an Edel. 1400, Performer intake, Sanderson headers, dual flowmasters, 27" tires, 3.73's and a 700r4. I'm not sure what rods and jets are in my carb, though. As far as I know the 1400 is the same as the 1406 plus the EGR port and a leaner factory setting. Oh yeah, it's a new goodwrench 350.

If I can get mine up to 12 to 13 mpg that would be a 25% increase and another day and a half between fillups! The 305 and 2.73 gear it had stock got 15 mpg, but it had no power. Man, I need OD!

The best I ever recorded was 18 MPG on a 16 gallon tank driving in OD the whole time. Average 13-15 in the city if I keep my foot out it. I have yet to try a full tank again now that I have dual 14" electric fans installed. I don't even know what I'm currently getting in the city.

i'm also only gettin 10mpg with my edlebrock. I have the performer carb, intake, flowmaster duals, an rv cam, and 3.08s. I figure I should be gettin better mileage also with those gears.

Well I don't have an edlebrock, I have a worked over Q-jet and I get constand 21 mpg on the highway with my big block 461. I get around 15 or so on in town, if i keep my foot out of it.

On the highway I get about 14 MPG and around town I get about 11 MPG. The 3.07 gears suck for around town like others mentioned but on the highway work great.

Well after two tanks, I'm getting 12 with my setup. Kinda weird to me, I thought the 3.73's would help by keeping the engine more in its torque curve. It was getting about 13.8 with the 3.07's. I'm thinking my tank is leaking though. Sometimes when I come home in the moring from work I can smell gas around it. But I have been driving it all week b/c of electrical problems on the S10 and still just getting 12 mpg. Kinda depressing, I was hoping for 14 or so. :( But I'm not very easy on it either. This is the most powerful engine I've had in it, and its just so much fun! :D

Oh my setup is 361 (.060 over 350) flat top pistions, 882 heads, summit cam 224/224 @ .050, edel performer rpm, 1406, 700R4 with a 2200 stall (factory on a vette), and 3.73 peg leg running 275/60/15 tires (28" I think)
