Courtesy light question
I just installed a new harness and lights, plugged right into where my old one was and it works. My problem is that it won`t shut off when the doors are shut. The plungers are intact as well and factory wired into the box.

Have turned the light switch to the right? (to left in on for interior lights) otherwise grounded somewhere.

I have not seen the courtesy light harness myself. I was just going to add some light from a newer truck and wire them myself. Is the new harness connected to the door switches? The way the interior lights work is the power goes to the bulbs (overhead or under dash) then the - or ground side goes to the switches. The door switches ground the circuit when doors are open and take away the ground when the doors are shut.

The PO painted over the switches/plungers. Could this be the problem ? I will clean them up and see what I get.
Thanks, Bret |
If it was the paint, the switches wouldn't be grounding and the lights would be off, so I don't think it's the paint. The way the wire plug into the switch is kind of cheezy.. my guess is that one of your door leads is loose and grounding at one of your jam switches.
If you have an ohm meter you can disconnect the harness at the main connection by the fuse box and check for continuity on the white wire of the harness... there shouldn't be any with the doors closed. |
