Q: Parking brake on '72 K20?

History: Truck is a mutt...3/4 ton two wheel drive body on 3/4 ton 4x4 frame and running gear. PO tells me he couldn't make parking brake work, so he installed vacuum line lock(?) for a parking brake. You flip the lock and pump the brakes. It holds the rear brakes locked. Works for about a minute, then the truck starts to roll.

I haven’t been under the truck yet and have not pulled rear drums off (full floater...that's going to be fun). Assuming I have all the needed parts in the rear end, what would it take to put in a standard parking brake back in besides the cable? Pbrake mechanism is still in the cab.

Suggestions?

Hmmmm, I put a 2wd cab on my 71 chassis and used the cable from the 71. So you'll need the cable that goes from the foot brake to the bracket on the frame. The 2wd cable went through the frame the 4wd does not. Also, the cable that goes side to side is shorter on the 4wd v. 2wd since it is further back where it crosses from side to side.
