Still no luck :(

Some members on this board know the trouble I'm having getting the right wheel bearings for my Longhorn. After 4 weeks I finally got the bearings but those were to small... Looks like the previous owner did some serious damage  Now I found bearings with the right outside diameter, but the wrong inside diameter. I almost wanna give up. Getting a different rear axle isn't easy, and if I did found one I would not know how to make it fit , that's something I have never done before. Please give me any clue on which axles I can use for a swap. Can I use one from an 80's or 90's truck? Is it wise to weld on the axle tubes so I can make it fit? So far It's been a hell on wheels... :( Cya, Edmond |
Do you have an original bearing number?
|
Hey Edmond, I can only imagine how hard it is for you to get parts! You should have no trouble swapping in a 14 bolt rear from a 73-87 GM truck. If you can find a single wheel one ton, the pads are even in the right place. Otherwise, you can weld on new pads. You can make them from square tubing that you cut a 3" diameter arch in the side of and drill a pilot hole for the spring pack bolt or you can buy them. Summit Racing has them, Comp Eng for $20 and Mopar Perf for $15 a pair. If the 14 you find is a 3 1/2" tube, you'll probably have to make your own.

If you have the part number or the correct measurements, and if I can find them, I'll send them to ya.
Let me know. |
No I don't have the original bearings number... :(
I will try to find the right number and post it here as soon as I have it. The Truck is at the workshop right now and that's 30-35 miles from were I live. I hope I can get some time off from work friday afternoon... Cya, Edmond :bowtie: |
The Beast is back Home again
Well they did it, don't ask me how, but they did it :D
Numbers found on the bearings were: On the original bearings that came out three years ago: B11630 NDH and 1163OZ NDH 011786 and 11786Y On the ones that were put in three years ago: SKF 382 and 388A 362 and 368 On the ones that they put in now: TIMKEN 388A and 382 :confused:The other TIMKEN ones didn't fit: 362 and 368 although the numbers are the same as the ones that came out!! Last but not least the oil seal: AMGAUGE 2081 BCA/NAT# 28425 CR# TIM# 2081 But I'm glad I can drive the Beast again, that was the main thing :) Cya, Edmond |
Edmond,
I have to run into town later. I know a pretty good old parts guy. He'll find them. I'll get back to you later. |
