Best performance muffler to get??

Thx all for some of the other responses I have gotten on questions I have on this new ("old") 1984 C10 Silverado I just got----GREAT BOARD!

Muffler question....the previous owner put a "warmed" over 305 )cam and headers/Edelbrock manifold and 1406 carb) and duels on this truck.....no cats, no crossover pipe, and Flowmaster 2 chamber 40's....
......love the tone  , but too loud  .........any ideas as to mufflers to put on here to get "TONE" but with a little less "LOUD"......?? Hooker aerochambers? Magnaflows? Flowmaster Delta 40's or 50's???????? THX!

BTW, if anyone has any of these for sale, (looking for 2.5", c-to-c) that'd be so cool too.....!

woody96 02-21-2005 04:51 PM

2daTop.....anybody? Anybody got some scoop on these mufflers I mentioned and some others maybe?? :( Got any for sale??

Prerunner1982 02-21-2005 05:56 PM

you might do a search.. everyone here has thier own preference... some like aerochambers.. some prefer flowmasters.... a few even magnaflows.. its your money.... but try using the search feature it will give you alot of info you are lookng for. Put the name of the muffler you looking into..

I'd say a bigger flowmaster since you like the tone already. I believe they make all the way to a 70 series. If you run a crossover pipe, it will take some of the loudness out. Might try that first, cheaper than 2 new mufflers.

I would go magnaflows, they are straight through and built very well. JMO

Are you interested in these mufflers possibly.........

piecesparts 02-24-2005 07:59 PM

Go to a three chamber flowmaster to get the same throaty sound but without the extreme on LOUD. I have dual pipes with flowmasters on the truck that is in the avatar and the loud does not bother me, especially when it is left in the dust behind. If you use a rear exhaust exit point the truck is not as loud as you may find it otherwise.

i'm always interested in some 40's....as long as there in really nice shape for a nice price :hm:

are they center to center?

-bigarmzz-

woody96 02-24-2005 08:39 PM

Nope, they are center to side I guess....center in and side out......2.5". I am the guy that IM'ed you about them earlier today...let me think on them a bit and get back to you........cannot find anything I like better (except for maybe the IMCO performance muffler) that is cheaper than Flowmasters.......any ideas as to how the IMCO mufflers sound? They are a two chamber too but different shape to the chambers....about $45 each......

I've got the 50 series delta flows, 2.5" offset inlet and center outlet (I think). Willing to trade if yours are the same.

Thx, but I think those might be a little too quiet for me....... :( Might consider it.......mine are center in and side exit.......

GO here and listen to the 50series delta flows on the camaio with the 383 in it. My truck sounds the same.

I've had a 3-chamber Flowmaster Delta Flow on my Suburban's 350 for about five years now and love it. It has a deep, mellow tone without a lot of resonance and is not loud. Having tinnitus (permanent ringing in the ears), I don't want a loud, obnoxious system. Systems like that literally make my ears buzz- pisses me off, really. Plus, I'll tow and travel with it and don't need to hear a loud exhaust on a long trip.

Gibson makes some nice mufflers, too. That was my other preferred choice and is what I'll likely put on my 4-banger Jeep next time around. "Quiet power" is what I want on a 4-cylinder... ;)

Well, went there and it sounds awesome....I can tell a difference noticeably between it and the 40's,........I will think on it---BTW, did you find out if yours are center in and side out....(that sounds kinda perverted dosn't it..... :hm: )

Also, thanks KShortell.......I am like you, getting a bit older and the over the top tone/sound is a little much especially on a drive of over 30 minutes......

KShortell 02-25-2005 11:31 AM

Here's what it sounds like (recorded w/ digital camera):

I used the stock exhaust pipes with a couple of short extensions at the muffler- I came up a hair short- oops! I used the stock single 2 1/2" in, dual 2" out configuration.

You know, I really appreciate you adding this......having heard it, I think those delta 50's may be TOO quiet.....I hate to say it, but I think I am looking for something inbetween or a little different........I LOVE the SpinTechs tone and less interior noise, but not at the price they are asking for them........THX again!!!
