Power steering gear box.
I have one from a 1972 Chevy 3/4T. This truck was complete and running just last week. No leaks. $100 for power steering gear box, pitman arm and rag joint. Still Connected with power steering fluid. See pictures if this is what you need. PM me if you want it.

c10owner. Is your 68 now power steering or manual?
I'm going throught the same with my 68, will interested to know how you make out. |
greaanhorn, do the 3/4 boxes fit on 1/2 ton frames?
8door, mine is manual right now. My old 68 long bed was a manual that I converted to power using 71` parts. It worked great except for 1 outer bumper bracket has to be modified or eliminated in my case and you have to shorten the steering shaft. Makes a big difference and worth the hassle. |
Shorten the steering shaft?
Wow I didn't know that was coming. How did you do that? cut and weld the base for the coupler?or just sectioned the shaft. I knew about the bumper bracket. |

QUOTE] I'm sorry, I'm just a greenhorn at this. I really don't have a clue. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will chime in. |
greenhorn, I asked a guy tonight andhe said they are different on the bottom side. I don`t know for sure either so hopefully someone will chime in and help.
8door, there is a plastic pin in the shaft. Once you remove the pin you can shorten the shaft enough to mate up on the pwr box. It`s pretty much the same thing you have to do to put a van tilt in. |
Online parts stores don't show a difference between the 1972 3/4 and 1/2 tons. It kinda makes sense. The truck frames should be the same. You'll get the pitman arm and steering joint already attached. So the real question is if the pitman arm will mate your truck. Anyway let me know by tomorrow if you don't want this, I have someone local interested in my whole power steering set-up.

Go ahead and sell it. Untill I know for sure what fits, I don`t want to commit to anything and hold up a sale you already have. Thanks anyway.

my 2 cents worth.......the steering shafts are inner changeable and are different lengths from a man. to a power. not a big deal, the swap is very EASY. the front left bumper bracket will need to be knoched to let the box fit or you might find the correct bracket. if I find some pics I'll show you.

I've got 2 complete PS boxes, and 1 manual box. Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you the particulars.

A week after I installed it I decided to part my 72 Chevy highlander (in my signature). If I would have planned it better I would have used the one in the chevy. Until last week this was a complete driveable truck. The droplet you see on the underside pic is rain water from the other day taken with the front clip gone. This is what the truck looked like a week ago. |
