Maaco Paint jobs? Or Similar
 

Hey all,

So my Blazer is about due for a paint job. I plan on my rig being a sometimes daily driver (weather permitting), so I don't really want to drop $5,000 on a "kick ass lacquer airbrushed with graphics" paint job. I'm more interested in a solid, long lasting single color job, preferrably in polyurethane paint with a clear coat, spending around $1,000 or maybe a little more.

I was skeptical about them, but lately I've heard more and more good reviews of Maaco paint jobs, particularly their higher end signature jobs. They quote around a $1,000 for a poly job with clear coat.

I'd plan on doing about 90% of the body prep work myself, and have them do the finishing touches before painting.

Anyone have any experience with Maaco, or a recommendation for something similar? :hmm:

I plan on not going overbaord on this project. No really, this time I mean it. And just might swallow my pride on a Macco or similar paint job. I wouldn't have anything bolted on my truck that I didn't want painted ( I've seen some gawd Awful masking jobs from there) On the other hand for less than what they'd charge I could likely buy borrow & steal most of what I don't already have for a similar quality paint job in someones garage. I'd go to a shop, talk to the manager and have a look at some of their work.

$1000.00 wow My maaco here in Boise Idaho quoted me a blazer paint job (full size 72 style) for only $390.00 and they said they'd do the masking and finish sanding..... I didn't go through them but thats the quote I got....

I think Maaco for a DD is fine. I think $1,000 is still alot of money and they should do a great job for a DD. Remember, 95% of a paint job is in the prep work.

I had a Maaco paint job a few years ago and was happy with it. I did all the prep work with a friend who owned a body shop and then we took it to Maaco for the paint, because it was cheaper than having my buddy do it. The only reason they are so cheap is because they have a guy in the booth spraying all day, minimizing downtime. I wouldn't have them do bodywork, but they do a good job of spraying...

Unless Maaco was my only option...otherwise I'd fight, kick, ***** and complain all the way to a real paint shop...JMHO. Furthermore, for quality paint, the base paint (torch red) and clear for my 71' was somewhere near $900.00 and that was still in the can....so what kind of paint do you think Maaco is using ....can't be the best...and is probably the lowest quality to keep their costs LOW.

Maaco and similar discount paint shops are fine for a vehicle that you are planning on selling, but not for a paint job on a vehicle that you plan on keeping. My experience with discount paint shops has not been good. They cut corners to keep the costs down, booth filters not changed as often as they should be, paint products not mixed properly, using stale dated products, lower paid employees ( this is the big concern, as they usually get rookies and such), I can go on, but you get the picture. In paint and body work, you get what you pay for. Materials cost on a good paint job is more than the discount places charge for the whole job. Do the math and it doesn't add up. Same up your pennies and do it right at a reputable shop.

I spent the same 1000 bucks for my macco paint job and it is true You get what you pay for I got a mid-end paint job ,however do all the body work and sanding because they dont .I wanted a 1000 dollar mid-end paint job and thats what i got I felt it was better in my situation than a 4500 great job when both will be scratched by kids, dogs ,tree limbs and all the other things a daily driver encounters

Check other body shops in your area.If all the body and prep work is done,You can get a good single color paint job at a reasonable price.
