Things I didn't know about the Jimmy...
4 Attachment(s)
First of all, the headlight bucket on the drivers side is exactly the same as the head light bucket on the passengers side, it's just flipped over... I didn't know this...
Secondly, the drivers side fender on mine has the slots and holes for mounting the chevy headlight bezel, but the passengers side has no holes, only the slots... I'm almost positive neither front fender has been replaced. Last of all, there is always more rust on these than you think there will be! Hopefully tomorrow I am pulling the hood and fenders, I gotta get busy on this thing, been a long winter so far... Rg |
Here is another HUM, if you take the double headlight buckets off, the the single one behind it will take the single chevy bucket. That radiator core support is identical to the chevy. Aren't those fenders the same as a 67-68 chevy? I was wondering that, because I have a 68 chevy and I am buying a 72 GMC truck and the fenders looked similar. Let me know if they are, if anyone knows!?

Yep, the 68 Chevy is the same as the 68-72 GMC fenders. As far as the radiator support it is the same as the 67-68 chevy's but there is something different with the 69-72 chevy's, not sure exactly what it is, Anyone? Anyone?

Roger,
Not positive, but I know the 69-72 support has single headlight brackets on it moving the headlights inward a little bit, not sure if there are more differences or not. I have both but haven't set them beside each other to compare, just noticed the headlight buckets. And yes the GMC and Chevy 67-68 supports are the same other than the headlight mounts, I drilled the spot weld off the headlight mounts of a GMC support and put Chevy buckets on it for my 68 Chevy. I'm sure someone can tell us for sure on the 69-72 ones. Gord |
The 69-72 Chevy Radiator support puts the headlights in a different area for those style grills. I found this out when I swapped my 70 Chevy Sheetmetal over to the 68 style which I prefer. The headlights weren't centered in the hole for the trim ring of a 68. Luckily I had a 68 GMC parts truck with the radiator support still in it and was able to cut off the headlight buckets and use that one.
P.S. -- To all those GMC purists, I did not cut up a good rad. support, the bottom was almost completely rusted out, I'm just using it temporarily... |
smbrouss, if gmc purist means full of rust, I don't want any part of it! I have 4 radiator supports (2 - 70 GMC, 1- 68 chevy & 1 - 72 chevy) and I am trying to piece together one good one from the bunch...
I plan to use the 68 chevy with the gmc headlight buckets welded to it. I am also repairing the battery side bottom support where the wheel well mounts. It MIGHT work, and I only have about 10 hours in it and it still isn't done... should have bought one, but I'm in too deep... |
smbrouss70, bless you my son, the Jimmy Gods will smile upon you!
