P/S pump question
My p/s pump is leaking at the seam where the front and back are mated together. My question is has anyone ever tried to repair this by soldering or brazing? Or is my best bet just to replace it. Thanks Steve

Sounds like the leak is where the resivior meets the pump body. Any good parts house can get you the seals (o-rings) you need to fix it.

I replaced my p/s pump a couple of weeks ago because of a ongoing leak. I thought about just getting the pump mechanism and the seals (less the reservior). But, after assessing the repair, I ended buying a complete (reman) p/s unit. The older gentleman behind the parts counter concurred. I'm not sure you can braze or solder due to the heat. (BTW, overfilling the reservior may blow the seals.)

Where is the best place to buy a reman unit? Mine is making a bearing noise and I think I'll be replacing it soon.

Not sure where the best place is to buy a reman p/s unit. I purchased my from the local auto parts store. It did come with a 'lifetime' warranty. About $35 - $40 plus the core exchange.

Thanks...
Sounds like a good option and much cheaper than I thought it would cost. I am used to working on Pontiacs and am sometimes amazed at the cost of parts for my trucks! |
