CAUTION from buying from the truck shop in orange CA.
i bought two 67 fenders and front bumper today at the pomona swap meet from their stand, each piece was $100. i inspected the bumper before i bought and the body pieces they had on display were all very straight and looked good. the fenders were pretty heavily packaged so i figured they wouldnt be damaged nor did i want to open them up then and there to check them. anyway i just got home and opened them up both fenders are not straight around where the grille indents (67/68 grille). where the fenders curve in for the recess of the inner grille there are dings on both fenders. for brand new fenders i am definetly not happy with the quality. im calling them up tomorrow to see about an exchange.

yeah that would piss me off a little.

I bought two a few years back from GoodMark the same way they were like wavy in that area.
|
i guess its hard to mold that area straight, allthough if chevy did it back in 1967 im sure as hell that these guys could do the same in 2002. i now see why some of you guys sell orig fenders for $75-100. i mean these were only $100 (i think $130 in their catalog) at the swap meet but im still going to have to pay a body shop a bit extra to get them straight in the grille area.

I had the same problem with them through Mother Truckers. On 3 sets, so they all must suck

i think they are a good company. I deal with them i first fround them at pomona also

Here's the rule I tell everyone who asks how the import parts fit: "There is no way Taiwan can make a part in limited production (small numbers) & cheap, that will come up to the standards GM used to make hundreds of thousands of that same part!"...but if you can't find or afford the originals any more, you will be glad Taiwan is making them.
If they would just get some "Quality Control" it would really help! Just like the display parts that look so good, some runs are very good & then out comes the garbage!...and they send it anyway. |
The Truck Shop was also in Pleasanton this week-end and I bought one of there smooth tailgates. They had a sign that said "original thickness" so I asked the guy about it and he said there close but shy. Well I needed a tailgate so I took the plunge however I did pull it out of the box first. I didn't look bad at all but he's right they are a bit thin. Wish I could afford a real one. The Truckshop does have a lot of good stuff and I have
used them a lot, my whole interior is from them and fit real nice. :bowtie: :flag: |
I've bought LOTS of stuff from them and had great luck with them. Also, when I bought armrests about 6 months ago, I told them the wrong color (DUH) and when I got them home, realized my mistake. They exchanged them at the next swap with ABSOLUTELY NO hassle.

I'm down at their shop at least twice a month since I'm close. The one issue I had was easily resolved. I'm sure that they are probably getting their fenders from the same suppliers as everyone else. I'm sure they'll try and make it right for you. Give em a chance.

Heres how ill respond to this,i was there at Pamona and saw the $40 dash pads, fenders, the $200 lettered tailgates. From what ive been told, the lesser stuff goes to the swapmeet and is dumped.i almost bought one of the $25 dash bezels, but tempted,i didnt wanna support them, and how they work id rather pay a little more at a small guy.
|
Well I have never bought anything from them or even seen there stuff. Just dont have that stuff around here. Have seen numrous parts though from dealers at my dads bodyshop growing up as kid and I can say very rarely did we ever get a original part that was in perfect shape. There was always dings, dents, bumps.

Is there anybody out there that manufactures quality, made in the
USA parts anymore?I've been to the Truck Shop before, and have been treated very well there, but they do sell a good deal of over- seas crap.I'm sure that I am not the only one who would be will- ing to pay a little more for top quality USA made products.Isn't there a company called Goodmark that is based here in the states, not sure, but I see their ads in different mags. |
The answer to your first & main question is: NO! There are a few GM parts but the prices are getting CRAZY! I bought a GM part in FEB and it was $64...went back last week for another and it is now $98. Anyone out there getting 30%-40% pay increases? Not around here!

This Is the one BIG reason why I like to by origanal metal peices (fenders doors ect) from someone that sells used parts or just happens to have what I'm looking for at that time! just my .02
