Help!Truck won't start

Hi,it started last week it stalled out a few times the finnally died, ans couldn't get it stated. It'll crank but won't fire off,a few times I can get it stated but it dies quikly.Sofar I checked the easiest problems, made sure there was gas in the tank!!and replaced the fuel filter. When it sits gas is making it's way up to the carb inlet. The truck is stock with a 396,stock intake and a chevy Q-jet carb.I don't know much about carbs so not sure what to look for.any help is appreciated :fb:

Does it still have a points distributor?
If you don't know the difference, just open the hood of the 75, if it look slike that one, then it is HEI. If it is much smaller, then you have points.
Points suck. They need constant adjustment and replacement.

Sounds like it might be possibly the inlet needle not seating and the carb could be flooding out on you. Also the float can cause this to happen because they get saturated with fuel over time and will hang lower and put less pressure on the needle valve.

Also Vacuum leaks, Vacuum leaks, Vacuum leaks. And Check to make sure PCV valve isn't stuck. Shake it back and forth and make sure it rattles.
