chevelle vacuum operated cowl hood on our trucks?
 

has anyone ever done this? i think it would be crazy looking. cutting up a cowl hood off a chevelle with that vacuum cowl induction deal and putting it on one of our hoods or something. i would love to have something like that on my truck..

please post pics if anyone has something like this?

I think it would involve a lot of fabrication to make it function like the chevells's did. You'd need the aircleaner and all the underhood shrowding and seals. The problem with those was they only opened when you had your foot in it and with the price of gas it'd cost a fortune to show all yer buddies how cool it worked. It'd be cool tho.

theres a few glitches in your plan the main one being if you can even find a flapper hood in the first place they are worth quite a few thousand dollars and the chevelle guys would probably try to have you hung for cutting one up lol. its a cool idea but you would probably have to just fabricate your own

id love to do it.. but i agree it would be hard to find one.. and would be a shame to cut one up for the money too.

would be the coolest thing around tho. they dont make aftermarket ones eh? or anthing like that.

im not aware of any aftermarket ones but someone who knows how to work metal probably wouldnt have too hard of a time making one

Why not try setting a late 70's trams am air cleaner/hood scoop on your engine. Then cut out the air intake hole and put in a flapper that is opened by your carb linkage. The air intake hole could be towards the back or front depending on your taste. It's not in the cowl but maybe something that might work. Just a thought.

i like the chevelle units that are vacuum operated they look super nice. but it would be cool to make something the same but have it go off your carb instead of vacuum.

I know Stacey from TRUCKS! did one on a newer chev truck, not sure who manufactured it, but they might make them for our trucks...

ya thats insane money plus the price of a hood.

Both an 80 and 81 Z28 has a functional flapper hood scoop that opens when the pedal is floored. It's operated by a switch on the gas pedal. The hood bulge itself is kinda teardrop shaped, but it seals to the air cleaner just like the Chevelles did. Many of them don't work anymore, mine on my Z does. That would probably be a cheaper alternative. A lot of Camaro guys will ditch the factory Air Induction hood for a cowl induction style hood for more hood clearance. The problem with the Camaro one is you have to find the gas pedal switch, because no one is reproducing them.

I did non functional Chevelle hood on my 91. While the hood to cowl seals, air cleaner, ect... are very expensive, the hood itself IS being reproduced (price is around $270-290.00) and there is always a supply of original hoods around. I paid $75 for my cowl hood. It was slightly rotted in the front underneath but the scoop area was perfect. You can also find repro hoods for sale at some shows that are dinged/dented/bent corners, ect that the vendors are willing to let go at a substaintial discount.

Also, the chevelle cowl induction stuff would have to bee seriously modified to work as the difference in carb to hood height is a lot...

Another FYI, the underside on the non functional hood IS cutout for the flapper door. ;)

I thought about doing the chevelle cowl induciton thing on my truck too.
I had a 70 chevelle a good few years ago with the induction stuff(still have the hood emblems somewhere). was not working when i got the car, hooked up the vacume hose, cranked the car up. watched it move, reved it a few times and then it quit working, never worked again. haha
never got around to buying the parts to fix it.
but some mod like that to a truck would be cool.
